1st Grade Goal Domains & Concrete Micro-Steps
1. Calm Body & Big Feelings
When I feel frustrated, wiggly, or upset:
Take 3 deep dinosaur breaths before speaking.
Use the calm-down corner or ask for a water break.
2. Listening Ears & Focus
When teacher or classmates are speaking:
Point eyes to the speaker and keep hands in lap.
Wait for the magic word/bell before moving.
3. Friendly Words & Sharing
At recess, centers, and lunch:
Say: "Can I play too?" with a friendly wave.
Use kind words when taking turns with supplies.
4. Stamina & Trying Hard Things
During independent desk work:
Try 2 problems before raising my help signal.
Tell myself: "My brain grows when things feel hard!"
Counselor In-Session Script Prompts
If the student feels overwhelmed:
"We are not trying to change everything today! We are just picking one tiny superpower step that will make you feel proud."
If the student says 'I don't know':
"Let's look at our 4 star pictures together. Which one makes you smile, or which one feels a little tricky this week?"
5-Day Success Loop
Send desk tracker with student. Classroom teacher touches the badge once daily (e.g., morning or end of day) with a star stamp or sticker.
