Friendship Crew Blueprint
5th Grade Edition
LEVEL UP YOUR CREW
The Squad Playbook
Handling friction, keeping banter fun, respecting boundaries, and fixing glitches before they ruin the team.
Real talk, zero drama
What stays here, stays here
No fake apologies
PLAY 01
Banter vs. Burn
Boundary Radar
Healthy Joking
- Both people are actually laughing
- Doesn't attack personal stuff (family, looks, clothes)
- Stops right away if someone gets quiet or says stop
Crossing the Line
- Only one person is laughing; the other looks down or freezes
- Ganging up 3-on-1 to get cheap laughs
- Saying: "Bro, you can't take a joke!"
The 2-Second Face Check:
If their eyes drop or they get stiff, the joke wasn't funny. Period.
PLAY 02
The Tap-Out Code
Clean Communication
When You Need It to Stop
You don't need to throw a punch or blow up. Use a clear, chill freeze phrase:
"Alright, drop it."
"Not funny to me today, let it go."
"I'm tapping out. Change the topic."
When Someone Taps Out
A solid friend respects the call immediately. No debate, no mocking:
Say: "My bad, got it." and move on.
NEVER: "Why are you so sensitive?"
Redirect the game or chat to back them up.
Squad Truth: Respecting a boundary doesn't make you soft—it proves you have self-control.
SCENARIO 1
The Recess Callout
Live Breakdown
During a 4-square game, Leo misses a shot. Ethan yells: "You always throw the game! You're trash at this!" Two other guys laugh. Leo goes red, kicks the ball over the fence, and walks off.
1. Where's the boundary? Critiquing a play turned into personal disrespect.
2. What about the crew? The laughs made it 3-on-1 instead of a fair match.
3. What should Leo do? Kicking the ball lost him points; calling a timeout keeps control.
Group Question: What could one teammate say right in that moment to reset the vibe?
PLAY 03
The Cool-Down Clock
De-escalation Tactics
When blood boils, your brain goes from Think Mode to Fight Mode in 3 seconds.
01
Pause The Match
Step back 5 feet. Don't reply while your hands are shaking or voice is rising.
02
Breathe Out Hard
Take two slow breaths. Your heartbeat drops, and your logic brain turns back on.
03
Lock Your Words
Don't say words you can't hit delete on. Keep it short: "Talk to me when you're chill."
Rule of Thumb: Nothing good was ever said during the first 60 seconds of screaming.
PLAY 04
The 3-Part Repair
Mastering Real Apologies
STEP 1
Own the Specifics
Name what actually went down without making excuses.
"I took that joke too far in front of everyone."
STEP 2
Acknowledge Impact
Show you see how it felt to be in their shoes.
"I know that sucked and put you on the spot."
STEP 3
Fix & Reset
State the change and check if the crew is back on track.
"Next time I'll cut it out. We good?"
Trash Apology Alert: "Sorry IF you got offended" isn't an apology—it's just an excuse.
SCENARIO 2
The Group Chat Freeze-Out
Online Squad Check
Four friends have an online gaming party. Jordan's mic is lagging. Mason and Tyler kick him from the party, spam crying-laughing emojis in the chat, and post: "Get better Wi-Fi, bot." Next day at school, Jordan ignores them.
What Mason & Tyler Should Do:
Don't wait for him to bring it up. Pull him aside: "Hey, kicking you out last night was messed up. We shouldn't have done that. Squad tonight for real?"
What Jordan Can Do:
Skip the silent treatment (it drags out the grudge). Say: "Doing that over Wi-Fi was whack. If you're going to kick me, don't invite me."
The Lesson: Repairing fast saves the friendship. Waiting weeks makes it awkward.

Closing Round
1. Respect The Tap
When someone says "drop it," the joke stops instantly. No exceptions.
2. Back Up, Don't Pile On
Never jump in 3-on-1 to roast a buddy just to impress someone else.
3. Fix Glitches Fast
Use the 3-part repair before the day ends. Keep the crew solid.
Going Around the Circle:
"One quality a real friend always brings to the crew is..."
