REWIND CHECK
If someone glitches (wobbles/laughs), coach them to reset with zero shame.
2 The Counselor Script: "Fast-Forward vs. The Pause Button" (8 Mins)
Counselor Talk Track: "Every gamer knows that mash-spamming buttons without looking makes you lose a boss battle. Your brain has two modes: Fast-Forward Mode and Pause Controller Mode ."
Fast-Forward Trap (Impulse)
Brain sees something → body reacts instantly without thinking → gets in trouble or ruins game.
The Pause Power Move
Hit your mental remote → count 3-2-1 → pick the move that keeps you in control and winning.
3 The 3-Second "Brain Remote" Routine (Direct Instruction)
1
FREEZE THE FRAME
Feet planted flat, hands in lap or pockets. Lock your physical brakes.
2
BATTERY RECHARGE
Take 1 silent 'stealth breath' through the nose. Count silently: 3... 2... 1...
3
PRESS PLAY ON POWER
Ask: "What will happen next if I do this?" Choose the move that wins respect.

Stage 4: Boss Level Role-Plays & Pacing
Interactive Application (15 Mins)
Boss Level 1: "The Recess Line Bump" High Physical Trigger
Situation: Walking in line after gym; a classmate accidentally knocks into your shoulder and steps on your sneaker.
Glitch Reaction: Shove back immediately, yell "Watch it!", get sent to the back of the line.
Pause Move: Freeze hands, stealth breath (3-2-1), say calmly: "Careful man, that's my shoe."
Boss Level 2: "The Trivia Blurt-Out" Verbal Impulse
Situation: The teacher asks a science question you know 100%. The excitement makes your body want to yell it out.
Glitch Reaction: Shouting out answer over everyone; teacher cancels the turn and reprimands you.
Pause Move: Press thumb to pointer finger, shoot hand straight up silently, keep lips closed.
Boss Level 3: "The Bad Call in Four Square" Frustration / Competition
Situation: The ball clipped the line and the other player shouts you're out. You feel hot and want to kick the ball away.
Glitch Reaction: Kicking ball across blacktop, arguing, recess monitor bans you from games.
Pause Move: Drop ball to ground, take 3-second rewind walk to the back of the line, tell yourself: "I'll get back in square 4."
Wrap-Up Debrief Questions (5 Mins)
Body Signal Check: "Where in your body do you feel the urge first? (Hot chest, tight fists, twitchy feet?)"
Secret Weapon: "Which part of the 3-second pause is hardest for you: stopping hands or keeping quiet?"
Praise Formula: Deliver specific reinforcement: "I noticed how you caught your hand before blurting out—that's elite brain control."

Caregiver Briefing: What We Learned in Counseling
Today in our 3rd-grade boys group, we practiced Impulse Control using the "Remote Control Brain" framework. Third-grade boys often experience fast emotional surges where their body acts before their thinking brain can evaluate the consequences. We practiced using a 3-second physical freeze and stealth breath to switch from an impulsive "glitch" to a self-controlled "power move."
1. Use the Secret Cue
Whisper "Hit your Pause button" rather than shouting "Stop it!"
2. Catch Him Pausing
Praise self-braking: "Awesome job pausing before you responded to your brother."
3. Model the Reset
Show how you pause when traffic or dinner gets stressful.
Pocket Power Cards (Cut & Keep in Pocket or Backpack)
Dotted lines indicate cut marks
3-Sec Freeze
Feet like trees. Hands in pockets. Count: 3-2-1.
BRAIN BRAKE
Stealth Breath
In through nose, out like cooling hot soup.
ENGINE COOL
Rewind Check
Did they mean to do it? Don't jump to conclusions.
FACT CHECK
Power Play
Pick the move that keeps you winning the day.
