System Check Gas Pedal vs. Brake Pedal
01 / 04
The Gas Pedal
Fires on raw emotion: frustration, excitement, anger, surprise. It wants to blurt instantly with zero delay.
Speed: Less than 0.2 seconds
The Brake Pedal
Your frontal cortex checks the room: Is this helpful? Is it respectful? Will this get me into trouble?
Speed: Needs 2 to 3 seconds to engage
Key Truth: You are not a bad person when you surge. Your brakes simply need stronger wiring!
Telemetry Early Warning Body Alarms
02 / 04
What signals fire 3 seconds before you speak?
Head & Face
Heat in cheeks, clenched jaw, tight teeth, or tunnel vision.
Chest & Lungs
Racing pulse, shallow breath, or sharp intake of air to blurt.
Hands & Gut
Clenched fists, fidgeting fingers, or a tight knot in stomach.
When you spot any of these physical alarms, your brain is flashing: BRAKE NOW.
Trigger Radar High-Risk Situations
03 / 04
Which spark fires your engine the fastest?
#1
Feeling Wronged / Accused
When someone blames you or says "that's not fair." Immediate urge to defend loudly.
#2
Joking Gone Too Far
Trying to get a laugh from peers without checking if it crosses the line into hurtful.
#3
Task Frustration
Getting stuck on work or being asked to do something you dislike. Urge to mock or refuse.
#4
Interruption / Waiting
Having an urgent thought and feeling like your brain will explode if you don't say it now.
Next Step: Grab your Body Alarms Tracker to rank your personal sparks.

Engine Power vs. Brake Power
Your thoughts move fast! Inappropriate blurts happen when your speech engine accelerates faster than your brain brakes. Catch the impulse in your body 3 seconds before it reaches your lips.
1 Identify Your Body Alarms (Check all you feel before speaking)
Head, Face & Throat
Heat / flushing in cheeks or neck Teeth or jaw tightly clenched Throat tightness or words feel "stuck"
Chest, Hands & Muscles
Heart beats rapidly or chest tightens Fists ball up or fingers fidget intensely Quick sharp inhale right before blurting
2 My Top High-Risk Communication Triggers
Rate how hard it is to control your words in each situation (1 = Low Risk, 3 = High Risk):

01. RAPPORT & METAPHOR INTRO (Slides 1-2) 00:00 - 05:00
"Thanks for meeting today. You have quick thinking and strong opinions. Sometimes quick thoughts burst out before your brain has time to check if they're helpful. We aren't here to shut you down; we're here to install 3-second brakes so you stay in control."
Coach Check: Validate that the student isn't in trouble during this intervention session.
02. BODY TELEMETRY MAPPING (Slide 3 & Tracker Section 1) 05:00 - 12:00
"Think about the last time something spilled out of your mouth that caused drama or got you in trouble. What happened right before in your body? Did your jaw tighten? Did your face get warm? Did your breath hitch?"
Have student check off items on their printed Body Alarms Tracker.
03. TRIGGER RADAR TRIAGE (Slide 4 & Tracker Sections 2-3) 12:00 - 18:00
"Look at these four trigger situations. Be real with me: which one makes your gas pedal slam down hardest? Is it when someone questions you, or when you want everyone to laugh?"
Guide student to write their personal early-warning sentence in Section 3.
04. MISSION COMMITMENT & EXIT (Slide 5) 18:00 - 22:00
"Your only mission between now and our next session is simply to notice when your body alarm rings. Don't worry about fixing everything yet. Just catch the alarm."

0.5 SEC
The Surge
Emotional impulse floods the brain. An unsafe, rude, or mocking thought appears instantly.
1.5 SEC
The Brake Hit
You deploy a stealth physical action. Speech is locked in the hangar while you evaluate.
3.0 SEC
Smart Control
Logic comes back online. You choose: say nothing, ask a question, or rephrase cleanly.
You cannot always stop the thought from popping up, but you can always control whether it leaves your mouth.
Techniques The 3 Stealth Brakes
02 / 04
1. Tongue Lock
Press the tip of your tongue firmly against the roof of your mouth.
Physically locks jaw and stops blurting instantly.
2. Thumb Press
Press your thumb firmly into your index finger or leg for a silent 3-count.
Diverts surge energy straight into your hand.
3. Silent Cool-Off
Inhale through nose for 3 seconds, exhale through mouth silently.
Lowers heart rate and resets adrenaline rush.
Test all three with your coach right now. Which one feels most natural to you?

SESSION 2 OF 3 20-25 MIN
Session Objective
Student independently demonstrates at least one stealth brake to create a 3-second pause during rapid simulation trials.
Coaching Mindset
Impulse control is motor and somatic before it is verbal. Physical anchors keep words in the mouth while thinking restarts.
Safety Rule in Drills
Remind the student that simulation triggers are fake games to level up brakes. Always celebrate successful pauses.
Session Flow & Step-by-Step Coaching Scripts
01. CHECK-IN & DETECTIVE REPORT (Slides 1-2) 00:00 - 05:00
"Welcome back! Last time, your mission was to spot a body alarm in the wild. Did you feel any heat, jaw clenching, or fast heartbeats between our sessions? Even noticing it after the fact is progress."
Affirm any awareness. Introduce the 3-Second Rule as the brain's buffer zone.
02. MODELING THE THREE STEALTH BRAKES (Slide 3) 05:00 - 12:00
"Watch me. If someone insults me, I can't just tell my brain 'stop being mad.' But I can lock my tongue to the roof of my mouth. See? You can't even tell I'm doing it. Try it with me right now: tongue to the roof, hold for 1, 2, 3... Now try the thumb press."
Have the student physically rehearse all three. Help them pick their favorite.
03. BRAKE TEST SIMULATION DRILLS (Slide 4 & Sheet Section 2) 12:00 - 18:00
"Now we test your brakes under mild pressure. I'm going to throw out 4 trigger lines. Your goal is NOT to give a smart comeback. Your goal is to engage your stealth brake and hold the silence for 3 full seconds. Ready?"
Deliver Drills 1-4. Score together on the Brake Toolkit Sheet.
04. PERSONAL BRAKE SELECTION & MISSION (Slide 5) 18:00 - 22:00
"You held the pause every single time. Now write down your #1 stealth brake on your toolkit sheet. Your mission is to use it twice before our final session."

Session Flow & Step-by-Step Coaching Scripts
01. BRAKE REVIEW & HOMEWORK DEBRIEF (Slide 1) 00:00 - 04:00
"Welcome to our final session! Last time we practiced stealth brakes. Did you catch yourself using the Tongue Lock or Thumb Press in class or lunch? Tell me about a moment where you paused."
Reinforce self-control victories. Highlight that pausing creates the space to think.
02. INTRODUCING THE 3-WAY FILTER (Slide 2) 04:00 - 10:00
"Once you hit the brakes, you have 3 roads: The Vault (keep it inside), The Rephrase (say what you mean nicely), or Private Check (talk to the adult later). Which road saves you the most trouble when a teacher is talking to you?"
Ensure the student understands that feeling angry is normal, but expression must be strategic.
03. TRANSLATION LAB PRACTICE (Slides 3-4 & Worksheet) 10:00 - 18:00
"Let's look at Scenario 1 on your worksheet: 'This assignment is garbage.' If you blurt that, the teacher writes you up. How can you say what you actually need—which is help on problem #3—without the insult?"
Have student write down actual rephrase scripts for Scenarios 1, 2, and 3.
04. CONTRACT SIGNING & GRADUATION (Slide 5) 18:00 - 22:00
"You completed the full Brake Check system: Spot the Alarm, Pause for 3 Seconds, and Reroute your words. Let's both sign your Communication Agreement."
