Closing the Pitch: The Ask & Call to Action
How to stop trailing off with "hope you liked it" and close like a confident startup founder.
Your 5-Sentence Pitch Fix (Simple & Direct)
- Do not fade out at the end; investors cannot support you if they do not know what you need or what to do next.
- First, state The Ask by naming the exact dollar amount you are raising and the key milestones it will unlock.
- Next, deliver your Call to Action by giving investors one clear, exciting step to take right now.
- For your safety app, say: "We are raising $50,000 to finalize our iOS app and run a pilot across three high schools this spring."
- Then finish strong: "I have our live safety demo ready at the back table, so let's schedule a 15-minute follow-up this week to bring SafeStep to students."
1
The Ask (The Fuel)
Investors want to know your number and what output that money produces.
Specific Amount: Avoid "any amount helps." Name a concrete sum ($25k, $50k).
Key Milestones: Show the 2-3 things it funds (development, testing, 500 users).
2
Call to Action (The Step)
Give them an immediate friction-free way to lean in before they walk away.
Immediate Hook: Test the prototype, grab a one-pager, or scan a QR code.
Timeframe: Suggest a short meeting "this Thursday" or "in the next 10 days."

What you said (Passive ending)
"So yeah, that's pretty much my app... hope you guys liked it!"
Leaves investors with zero instructions, no valuation target, and an awkward silence.
What to say (Active, confident closing)
"To launch our beta test to 1,000 students, we are raising $30,000. Come test our emergency alert button on my tablet right now, and let's lock in a 15-minute sync next week."
Tells them exact numbers, shows current traction, and invites instant action.
The 3 Pitch-Closer Rules
- • Be unapologetic: Asking for money isn't greedy; it's what drives execution.
- • Never end with a question: Make a firm closing statement, smile, and say thank you.
- • Have a calendar ready: Book the next conversation while their interest is peaked.
