How to Nail the End of Your Business Pitch
Why you must always state your “Ask” and your “Call to Action” before walking off stage.
Your Answer (Completed Fill-in-the-Blanks)
“When closing a business pitch, an entrepreneur should include ‘The Ask’ about the exact money or resources needed and how they will be used because investors need to know how their money will help the business grow. They must also provide a Call to Action like ‘come try our prototype at Table 3 right after this’ because it gives interested people an easy, immediate next step. To make the closing clear and persuasive, the entrepreneur should avoid being vague or trailing off awkwardly and instead speak with confidence and give clear numbers. A common mistake people make at the end of a pitch is ending suddenly with ‘So yeah, that’s pretty much it’, which can be fixed by practicing a strong closing sentence and sharing contact info. In my opinion, a strong conclusion helps an entrepreneur look prepared, build trust, and turn listeners into supporters.”
Why It’s Critical to Include Both Before You Step Down
Think of your pitch like a shopping trip. The Ask tells people the price tag, and the Call to Action tells them where the register is. If you forget either one, no sale happens!
1. The Specific Ask
What do you actually need?
Never say “we just want some money.” Give a real number (like “$5,000 for 500 product units”).
- ✓ Shows You Have a Plan: Proves you did the math and aren't guessing.
- ✓ Builds Trust: Investors only put money into projects with clear budgets.
If you don’t ask for anything, judges can’t say yes.
2. The Call to Action (CTA)
What should they do right now?
Tell the room the exact next step (like “Grab a sample at our table” or “Scan our QR code”).
- ✓ Captures Excitement: People forget quickly once the next speaker starts.
- ✓ Makes It Easy: Removes guesswork so people know exactly how to reach you.
A great idea without a next step just gets forgotten.
Simple Do's and Don'ts for Pitch Day
Don't:
- Say “So yeah, that's it” or look down at your shoes.
- Ask for “whatever money you can spare.”
- Leave the stage without showing your email or Instagram.
Do:
- Memorize your last 2 sentences so you finish strong.
- State the exact dollar amount and what you'll buy with it.
- Put a QR code on your final slide so judges can connect instantly.
Golden Rule: Ask for what you need + give them a next step = pitch success!
