Our 2nd Grade Class Family
Room Kindness Guide
We Don't Have to Be Best Friends...
But We Always Choose Kindness!
Every single person in our classroom deserves respect, care, and a safe place to learn and play.
Warm Greetings
Room for Everyone
Respectful Words
We Are All Unique
It Is Normal to Like Different Things!
Different Games
Some of us love tag, some love drawing, and others love building with blocks.
Different Hobbies
We read different stories, like different sports, and learn at our own pace.
All Wonderful
You do not need to share every interest to treat someone like a teammate!
Our differences make our classroom interesting and fun!
Important Difference
What Is the Difference?
A Choice
Being Friends
- Sharing special secrets and playdates
- Picking common favorite games together
- You choose who your close friends are!
A Classroom Rule
Being Kind
- Using polite, gentle words with everyone
- Sharing classroom markers and books
- Kindness is for EVERY person in our room!
You do not have to sit together at lunch, but you must speak respectfully.
Recess Time
Scenario: Someone Asks to Play
Hurtful Reactions
"No, you can't play with us!"
"We only want our friends here."
Whispering and walking away.
These make classmates feel lonely and left out.
Kind & Respectful Ways
"Sure, you can be next in line!"
"We are in the middle of a round, want to join the next game?"
"I am playing tag today, have fun on the swings!"
Honest, polite, and welcoming to all!
Remember: The playground belongs to all 2nd graders!
Learning Together
Partner Time: What If We Aren't Close Friends?
1. Smile & Greet
Say: "Hi! Let's be a great team today." Never sigh, groan, or roll your eyes.
2. Listen Kindly
Listen to your partner's thoughts and take turns reading, writing, and sharing.
3. Cheer Each Other
Say: "Good job!" or "Thanks for helping me." Celebrate getting work done together!
Super Tip: You might discover a fun new strength in each other!
Teamwork Power
Word Switchers
Switch Hurtful Words to Polite Words!
"You're not invited / you can't talk to me."
"I'm working right now, but hello!"
"Ugh, why do I have to sit by you?"
"Good morning! Here is some desk room."
"Your drawing looks silly."
"I like how bright your colors are!"
If you don't have something kind or helpful to say, take a breath and choose quiet!
Our Promise
Our 2nd Grade Kindness Pledge
1
We say "please," "thank you," and "excuse me" to all classmates.
2
We never roll our eyes, groan, or laugh when someone makes a mistake.
3
We share supplies and make space when someone needs a spot.
4
We remember: Everyone belongs here, and everyone is valued!
"Friends or not, we treat each other like champions!"
Let's Talk!
Turn and Talk to a Neighbor
"What is one kind thing you can do or say today to someone who is not your best friend?"
Share your idea with the person sitting next to you, then listen to their idea!
Be a good listener
Say "Thank you for sharing"
Put your idea into action!
