5 Minutes
Begin with a discussion using the prompt: "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Introduce the day's lesson: exploring different jobs and the skills people use.

Meet the Community Helpers Reading
15 Minutes
Distribute the Meet the Community Helpers reading. Have students read individually, in pairs, or as a class.
Focus on identifying jobs and tasks. Facilitate a brief discussion on what students learned about various careers.

My Future Self Presentation
15 Minutes
Go through the My Future Self Presentation slides. For each career, discuss:
What does this person do?
What skills do they need?
What tools do they use?

Dream Job Match-Up Activity
8 Minutes
Distribute the Dream Job Match-Up worksheet. Explain the activity: matching job descriptions and drawing themselves in a dream job. Circulate and provide support.

Wrap-Up & Share
2 Minutes
Ask students to share one new career they learned about. Reiterate that there are many exciting paths to explore!

Meet the Community Helpers
Have you ever wondered about all the different jobs people do in our town? From the person who delivers your mail to the one who teaches you at school, everyone plays an important part! These people are often called community helpers because their jobs help our community run smoothly and safely. Let's meet some of them!
The Firefighter
When there's an emergency, firefighters are there to help! They bravely put out fires, rescue people and animals, and even help in accidents. Firefighters need to be strong, quick thinkers, and very brave. They train a lot to make sure they know exactly what to do when danger strikes. They use big hoses, tall ladders, and special trucks to keep us safe.
The Police Officer
Police officers work hard to keep our neighborhoods safe. They help people in trouble, make sure everyone follows the rules, and investigate mysteries. To be a police officer, you need to be fair, honest, and a good communicator. They drive special cars, use radios to talk to each other, and wear uniforms so you know who they are.
The Postal Worker
Do you love getting mail? Thank a postal worker! Postal workers collect, sort, and deliver letters and packages to homes and businesses every day. They walk many miles and know all the streets in your town. They need to be organized, reliable, and friendly. Rain or shine, they make sure your packages get to your door.
The Chef
Chefs are masters of the kitchen! They cook amazing food for restaurants, schools, and even hospitals. A chef needs to be creative, organized, and good at tasting. They use all sorts of tools like knives, pots, pans, and big ovens to prepare yummy meals for many people. Their job is to make sure everyone enjoys what they eat!
The Veterinarian
If you love animals, maybe you'll be a veterinarian! Veterinarians are animal doctors. They take care of pets like dogs and cats, and even bigger animals like horses and cows when they are sick or hurt. They need to be gentle, observant, and very knowledgeable about animals. Vets use special tools to check on animals and help them get healthy again. They make sure our furry, feathered, and scaled friends are happy and strong.
