Facilitator Play Guide & Script
Psychoeducation & Regulation Framework for Therapists & Caregivers
Ages 6-10 / Autistic Focus
1. Neurodiversity-Affirming Core Principles
This game is collaborative , not competitive. All feelings—including anger, anxiety, and exhaustion—are natural signals from the nervous system. The goal is never to "stop" having feelings, but to identify body sensations , communicate needs safely, and practice calming strategies that match the child's sensory profile.
2. How to Play (15-20 Minute Session)
Step 1: Check In
Place game tokens on Basecamp. Both player and therapist pick their current color zone on the chart.
Step 2: Move & Practice
Tap the 1-3 spinner or roll a die. Move forward and complete the space prompt or draw an Action Card.
Step 3: Reach Summit
Work together to reach Space 20. Celebrate learning your favorite body clues and calm-down tools!
3. Space Guidance & Therapist Prompts
Body Clue
Interoception practice: Help the child tune into internal sensations (heartbeat, tense jaw, butterflies, warm face). If speaking is hard, offer pointing to the body outline on the visual support sheet.
Strategy Stop
Tactile rehearsal: Always model the strategy together! (e.g., "Let's blow up our balloon tummies together on 3-2-1"). Never force an aversive sensory input.
Action Card
Scenario solving: Draw from the Card Deck. Read the concrete home or school scenario and let the child select the best matching tool from the Calming Choice Board.
4. Accommodations & Multi-Modal Support
For Minimal-Speaking or Overwhelmed Moments:
Use the visual pointer on the Regulation Toolkit sheet.
Accept nodding, pointing, or gesturing to feeling cards.
Provide an optional "Pass" or "Co-pilot" turn with an adult.
Sensory & Movement Integration:
Allow standing, bouncing on an exercise ball, or holding a fidget.
Emphasize proprioceptive (heavy work) inputs: wall presses, hugs.
Keep auditory environment calm; offer noise-dampening headphones.
