Therapeutic Objective
To reframe rules from arbitrary constraints to logical system designs. By validating students' intellectual curiosity ("Why?") and introducing the concept of Cognitive Flexibility, students learn to adapt to protocols they personally dislike without initiating counterproductive power struggles.
Crucial Note
Avoid telling the student "rules are rules." This triggers defensiveness. Instead, praise their critical thinking and redirect it toward systemic decoding.
Session Roadmap

The Hook: "The System Investigator" (3-5 mins)
Explain that game developers, programmers, and societies all use rules to keep software and systems running smoothly. Tell the student: "Your brain has a huge capacity to think logically. I want us to look at rules like security codes we need to understand and adapt to, rather than enemies we have to fight."

Case Study Investigations (10-15 mins)
Go through the Rule Decoder Worksheet (Page 1) together. Read the "Annoying Part" and validate it ("It totally makes sense that you want your hood up for comfort."). Then, prompt the student to think from the administrator's perspective. If they struggle, guide them with safety cues (e.g., "If a stranger walked into the hallway, how would a teacher know they don't belong if everyone had hoods up?").

The Custom Decode & Game Plan (10-15 mins)
Have the student complete Page 2. Let them choose a rule they genuinely despise. Maintain an objective, scientific attitude. When writing the "Adaptation Game Plan," help them formulate concrete actions that keep them safe from arguments (e.g., "I will put my phone away when the timer starts, even if I haven't finished reading the page").

Reflective Scale & Sign-Off (5 mins)
Introduce the Cognitive Flexibility Scale. Discuss how a "concrete-rigid" brain gets stuck and loses its own power (by losing recess, getting sent out of class, losing computer time). On the other hand, "water-flexibility" means you flow around the obstacle to preserve your personal time, energy, and freedom.
