Instructional Steps
1
Introduction to Mind Mapping (10 mins)
Begin with a brief discussion on what a mind map is: a visual way to organize thoughts and ideas around a central theme.
- Draw a simple example on the board (e.g., "Summer Vacation" branches into "Travel", "Food", "Relaxing").
- Explain that today they will use this tool to explore their own futures.
- Teacher Tip: Emphasize that there are no wrong answers; it's about what they care about.
2
Creating Mind Maps (20 mins)
Distribute the Mind Mapping Worksheet and colored pencils.
- Guide students to write "My Future" or "My Dreams" in the central circle.
- Suggest primary branches: Career (What I want to do), Hobbies (What I want to learn), Impact (How I want to help), and Personal (Family/Friends).
- Encourage them to add 2-3 specific details to each branch.
- Circulate the room, asking guiding questions: "If you want to be a scientist, what kind of things would you like to discover?"
3
Reflection and Sharing (10 mins)
Pair up students to share their maps.
- Prompt: "Share one dream that you are really excited about and why."
- Close with a whole-group discussion: "Why does visualizing our goals help us today?"
- Key Takeaway: Setting goals gives us a map, but we take the steps.
Quick Tips for Success
For Students Who Are Stuck:
Offer a list of "Possibility Prompts" like: space travel, opening a bakery, learning to surf, or helping animals.
Creative Expansion:
Encourage students to use icons or small doodles instead of just words to make the map uniquely theirs.
