Instructional Procedure
1 Warm-up & Introduction
10 Minutes
Tell the Story: Share your chosen story of perseverance. Ask students to listen for the "stormy" parts where the person wanted to give up.
Slides 1-3: Introduce the brain as a muscle. Contrast "The Stuck Brain" (Fixed) vs. "The Growing Brain" (Growth).
Ask: "What's the difference between saying 'I can't do this' and 'I can't do this yet '?"
2 Mindset Exploration Activity
15 Minutes
Practice: Hand out the Mindset Exploration Activity. Students work through common school scenarios (math, sports, feedback).
Discuss: Have students share their "Growth Mindset" responses. Focus on the internal dialogue change.
3 Learning Journey Maps
20 Minutes
Slides 4-5: Frame learning as a nautical voyage. It’s not a straight line; it has waves and detours.
Creation: Distribute the My Learning Journey Journal. Students map out a specific time they struggled (e.g., learning to ride a bike, a tough book, a video game level).
Teacher Role: Circulate and help students identify the strategies they used to overcome the challenge.
4 Share & Discussion
10 Minutes
Gallery Walk or Pair Share: Allow volunteers to show their maps.
Questions: Use the Discussion Questions guide to facilitate a deeper class-wide reflection.
5 Cool Down & Reflection
5 Minutes
Exit Ticket: Students write one sentence about a challenge they will face with a growth mindset tomorrow.
Closing: Reinforce that they are now "Navigators" of their own brains!
