"Imagine Sam's favorite toy broke. Sam feels very sad and starts to cry. Sam's friend says, 'Don't be sad, it's just a toy.' But Sam still feels sad."
β’ Discussion Prompt: "Is it okay for Sam to be sad? How can we show Sam we understand their feelings?"
β’ Practice: Have students practice saying validating words: "It's okay to feel sad. I'm here for you."

β’ Action: Distribute the Feelings Matching Game worksheet.
β’ Guidance: Help students look at each face and identify the emotion. Have them draw lines to match the face to the correct color or label (if they are beginning readers).
