Instructional Facilitation Guide (30-Minute Session)
Warm-Up 3 MIN
"Hi [Student's Name]! Thanks for coming today. How are you feeling right now, as we start our session? You can tell me in words, or show me with a face, or even a color!"
"That's great. You know, we have so many different feelings every day. Sometimes our feelings can be a little tricky. Have you ever felt really angry, but then later you realized there was something else making you upset underneath?"
"Today, we're going to become detectives and explore those tricky feelings, especially anger, so you can be the boss of your feelings!"
Recognizing Signals 4 MIN
"First, let's talk about anger. Everyone feels angry sometimes, and that's okay! But it's important to notice when anger is starting to show up. What does anger feel like in your body? When you start to get frustrated or angry, what do you notice?"
(Listen to student's responses. Guide them to think about physical sensations like a hot face, tight fists, fast heartbeat, or emotional signs like grumpy thoughts, wanting to yell.)
"That's a really good observation. Let's look at this Anger Signs Worksheet together. We can circle or write down the signs you notice in yourself. The sooner we notice these signs, the easier it is to choose a helpful way to deal with that big feeling!"
The Iceberg 6 MIN
"Now, let's talk about something called the 'Anger Iceberg.' Have you ever seen an iceberg? It's a huge piece of ice in the ocean, but you only see a little bit of it above the water. Most of it is hidden deep down!"
"Anger can be like that iceberg. Sometimes, anger is what people see on the outside, like the tip of the iceberg. But underneath, there are other feelings that are causing the anger. It's like anger is wearing a mask for other feelings."
(Listen for responses. If the student struggles, offer examples: "Maybe they're feeling sad? Or scared? Or even just tired?")
"Let's use this Anger Iceberg Activity to explore this idea more. We'll write 'Anger' at the top, and then below the water, we can think of all the other feelings that might be hiding. What feelings do you think sometimes hide under your anger?"
Coping Strategies 4 MIN
"Now that we know what your anger signals are, and we understand that anger can hide other feelings, what can you do when anger starts to bubble up? What are some things that help you feel calmer or deal with big feelings?"
(Encourage brainstorming. If stuck, suggest: "What about taking some deep breaths? Counting to ten slowly? Some people like to draw or listen to music.")

A Social Story about Big Feelings
Hi there! My name is Alex, and sometimes I feel big feelings. One of those big feelings is ANGER . When I feel angry, my body can feel hot, my hands might want to clench, and I might want to stomp my feet. It feels like a storm cloud is inside me.
"It's okay to feel angry! Everyone feels angry sometimes."
One day at school, I was super excited to draw a picture, and my favorite pencil suddenly snapped in half! I felt that hot anger feeling start to bubble up. My hands felt like they wanted to squeeze the broken pencil super hard. I wanted to stomp my feet and maybe even yell, "This isn't fair!"
Another time, during playtime, my friend and I both wanted to use the same swing. We started to argue, and my face felt hot again. I wanted to push my friend and tell them they were being mean...
...but then I remembered my superpower!
When the anger storm starts, I can be my own Anger Hero ! I use my three special steps:
1
Stop! I take a deep breath, like smelling a yummy flower and blowing out a candle. 🌬️
2
Think! I think about what made me angry and what might be hiding under my anger, like sadness or frustration.
3
Choose! I choose a calm-down strategy from my Calm Kit , like counting to ten or taking a quiet break.
When I use my Calm Kit tools, the anger storm starts to get smaller and smaller. I feel my body calm down, and my mind feels clearer. I am proud to be my own Anger Hero!
You can be your own Anger Hero too!

Anger Management Answer Key Anger Management Quiz
Answer Key & Grading Guide
1
What is one sign your body might give you when you start to feel angry?
Your face gets hot
Reasoning: The lesson and "Anger Signs Worksheet" emphasize physical signals like heat, tension, and increased heart rate as primary indicators of anger.
2
The "Anger Iceberg" helps us understand that anger is often...
Hiding other feelings underneath
Reasoning: The core metaphor of the iceberg is that visible anger serves as a "mask" for more vulnerable, underlying emotions like sadness, fear, or frustration.
3
Name two calm-down strategies you can use in class.
Acceptable Answers Include:
Deep breaths (slow in, slow out)
Counting to 10 slowly
Asking for a quiet break / Calm corner
Squeezing a stress ball (quietly)
Doodling or writing on paper
Talking to a teacher or trusted adult
Note: Credit should be given if the student identifies any two strategies from the "Calm Kit" and explains their practical use in a classroom setting.
4
Is it okay to feel angry sometimes?
Yes, it's a normal feeling.
Reasoning: A key emotional regulation concept taught in this lesson is that all feelings are valid; the goal is to manage the reaction, not to eliminate the emotion.
5
Imagine your pencil broke. What feelings might hide underneath? What tool would you use?
Hidden Feelings:
Sadness, disappointment, helplessness, annoyance, or feeling "unlucky."
Coping Tools:
Deep breath, asking for help, counting to 10, or using a fidget.
