Hook & Framing: Setting the Vision
Introduce the concept of a career as a personal blueprint. Emphasize that finding a career is not just about getting money—it's about aligning internal "sparks" with meaningful problems in the world.
05 - 15 min
Phase 1: Spark Inventory Execution
Have students complete Page 1 of the portfolio. Instruct them to write checkmarks based on instinct, tally totals, identify their dominant archetype (Builder, Connector, Thinker), and complete the baseline reflection at the bottom.
15 - 25 min
Phase 2: Spark Storm Brainstorming
Guide students to Page 2. Write the four Sentence Stems on the whiteboard or point them out in the packet. Students use the stems to uncover hidden career interests. Walk around and help students map their talents to real global needs.
25 - 40 min
Phase 3: Crafting the Future Narrative Draft
Students draft their 3-paragraph "Day in the Life" narrative across Pages 3 & 4 using the provided prompts (P1: Environment, P2: Action, P3: Long-term Meaning). Provide quiet space for drafting, then collect portfolios or prompt short peer-shares.
Supporting Struggling Writers
- • Oral Rehearsal: Let students explain their workday out loud to a peer before attempting to write it down.
- • Direct Framing: If students are unsure of their career, encourage them to write about a composite hobby-based job (e.g., gaming designer).
- • Reduced Length: Permit students to write 1-2 powerful, descriptive sentences per paragraph rather than full-length narrative drafts.
