Unit 1 • Week 3 Scripted Plan
Unpacking hallway posturing and defining authentic personal voice.
Exemplar Session
Duration 45 Minutes
Media Anchor Kendrick Lamar - "DNA."
CASEL Focus Self-Awareness (1.A)
Output Goal Personal Mask Profile
Setup: Beats Looping
Teacher Script: "Fellas, gather round. Put your hallway baggage down. Look at the wall board. I drew a slider from 1 to 10. Some of us walk in blasting loud static—racing thoughts, anger, high anxiety. Others walk in completely on mute, disconnected. I want you to grab a post-it, put your initials on the back so it stays private, and stick it on your level. Let’s register our baseline vibe without talking."
Anchor: Lyrical Deconstruct
Teacher Script: "Look at the board. We are breaking down these bars from Kendrick Lamar's track 'DNA.' Kendrick lists contrasting elements inside himself. He screams about having royalty and loyalty, but also poison and pain in his heritage. Why do we feel forced to choose only one lane—the hyper-tough, silent, unfeeling lane? What happens to a young man when he suppresses his secondary frequencies?"
Anticipated Student Response: "You look weak if you show feelings."
Teacher De-escalation: "It takes massive muscle to control a track with high gain. Suppressing is easy; mixing takes skill."
Activity: Mask Layout Handout
Teacher Script: "Now you are the head engineer. I am handing you the Mask Profile Worksheet. On the outside of the face, sketch or write the words you display to survive the school hallway—the tough labels, the status symbols, the online profiles. On the inside of the face, map out your actual inner assets—the music you love when alone, the family values, the deep worries. Keep it real."
Ritual: Closing Circle
Teacher Script: "Stand tall. We are in a circle. Each brother is going to drop one single word that represents their inner frequency today. Don't explain it, just speak the track name... This week, when you feel the pressure of the corridor 'mask' tightening, take one deep inhale, drop your shoulders, and stay locked into your baseline."

Neuro-Developmental Outcome
Clinical worksheets, labeling primary feelings from diagrams.
Lyrical analysis of emotional "distortion" and raw tracks.
Bypasses defensiveness and triggers deep emotional vocabulary organically.
Passive listening to teacher lectures on cyberbullying.
Active algorithmic decoding of feeds and social bait patterns.
Builds critical agency, helping boys resist cognitive hijacking by media.
Forced artificial pairing for scripted conflict dialogue.
"The Cypher Circle" where vulnerability is paced like musical duets.
Creates high peer status for authenticity rather than physical bravado.
Standard summative exams or essay reflections.
A public, student-curated media exhibition and live showcase.
Instills high-status identity and deep community-anchored accountability.
Music acts as a protective third-person shield. When a student talks about Kendrick Lamar's or Kid Cudi's struggles with pressure, anxiety, or rage, they are projecting their own complex internal state safely. We scaffold this projection into direct self-reflective lyricism and auditory design.
We leverage modern cinematic masterpieces (*Into the Spider-Verse*, *Creed*, *Cobra Kai*) to pause and analyze moments of interpersonal tension, grief, and brotherhood. We study characters as physical scripts, helping boys identify where stress manifests in body postures and tone.
Rather than warning boys to "stay off screens," we treat social feeds as a complex ecosystem that can be analyzed. We teach them to see algorithms as professional producers trying to capture their neural signals. This flips their role from manipulated users to critical directors.

Classroom Blueprint
Step-by-step master scripts and somatic check-ins for daily lesson delivery.
Routines
1 THE VIBE CHECK: Opening Somatic Script Duration: 7 Mins
The Environment: A transition beat is looping through speakers (e.g., chill, instrumental jazz-hop). The chalkboard shows a vertical sliding dial from 1 to 10 (Static/Noise to Clarity/Flow).
Teacher Script: "Fellas, welcome to the studio. Step in, drop the hallway weight outside. You see the dial on the wall. Some of us are running on high static today—your mind is racing, your body is tense, your energy is scattered. Others are running on a clean loop, calm and focused. Grab a post-it, put your initials on the back, and place it on your current frequency. No talk, no judgment. Just register your vibe."
2 THE PLAYBACK: Critical Analysis Script Duration: 15 Mins
The Environment: The media anchor (lyrics, scene, or post) is displayed. Students are in listening positions.
Teacher Script: "Look at the screen. We are breaking down this track/scene today. We are not just looking at the flashy beats; we are looking for the 'under-sample.' Listen to these three bars carefully. What is the artist actually saying behind that aggressive tone? What is the hidden loop? Why are they using anger as a filter? Let’s map the frequency."
3 THE REMIX: Peer Collaborative Script Duration: 18 Mins
The Environment: Students are clustered in groups of 2-3 with a physical remix board (or sheet).
Teacher Script: "Now it's your turn in the engineer's chair. You are remixing the script. Take this situation where a brother has his boundaries crossed. Instead of defaulting to the loud distortion pedal of physical beef or blocking them on the feed, how do you remix this track? Write out the bars or storyboard the resolution. Keep the rhythm authentic, but change the outcome."

Community Integration
Guidelines for grading, family invitation, and maintaining circle safety during the showcase.
Showcase
Conflict between middle school boys is inevitable, especially when engaging in creative collaboration. When friction or academic beef occurs, the facilitator should deploy the "Clearing the Line" Protocol inside a structured, restorative circle.
Step 1: Somatic Reset (No Speaking)
Both boys face away, matching deep breathing cycles to a steady 60 BPM metronome. This drops adrenaline and resets the nervous system.
Step 2: Lyrical Translation
Each student states what they felt using a musical analogy: "My line was distorted because of [X]," or "I felt my baseline volume getting too high because of [Y]." This avoids attacking vocabulary.
Step 3: The Collaborative Loop
The boys collaborate to write one joint sentence describing how they will adjust their pacing to avoid crossing boundaries again. Lock it in with a fist bump.

"This is not a feel-good talk session. The Remix Project is a critical literacy, media analysis, and restorative competency curriculum that targets student attendance, disciplinary incidents, and emotional self-regulation. By turning passive digital consumers into active media producers, we are directly building modern leadership skills aligned to CASEL standards."

The Hook Monologue
"Fellas, grab a seat. Take a look around. This isn’t English class. Nobody’s grading your grammar here, and nobody’s going to make you read a stale textbook out loud. Today, you are stepping into a production studio. My name is [Teacher Name], but in this room, consider me your Lead Producer. For the next hour, you are the engineers, the artists, the ones in control of the console. We are here to talk about what actually matters—our music, our feeds, how we handle the pressure of the hallways, and how we write our own soundtrack instead of letting people play off-key scripts on our lives."
Facilitating the Vibe Record
"You see this vinyl record? This is the Studio Log. In the music industry, when you walk into a session, you log your track time. I want each of you to grab a silver sharpie, come up to the center board, and write down your name or the producer handle you want to go by. Once your name is on this track, you are officially locked into the Brotherhood Contract. This record hangs on our studio wall all year long. Step up and register."
Handling Resistance (Teacher Strategy)
If a student acts disinterested or says, "This is corny":
DO NOT argue or discipline them. Agree immediately. Say: "Hey, I hear you. Standard school setups are corny as hell. But we aren't doing that here. If you think the setup's off, you're the engineer—your job is to help me change the sample. Log your name down, and let's make the track better." This moves their energy from defensive bystander to co-designer.

Launch Block 2
Media Anchor Blueprint
Video Segment: *Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse* (The Leap of Faith scene — 2 minutes).
Objective: Deconstruct how Miles Morales transitions from imitating others' styles to taking complete control of his own leap.
The Video Setup Script
"Fellas, turn your eyes to the screen. We are playing a classic clip. Miles Morales has all the spider powers, but he’s still failing. Why? Because he’s trying to be Peter Parker. He’s wearing a copycat outfit. He’s listening to other people's soundtracks on how to jump. Watch this exact scene where he finally decides to paint his own logo, mix his own track, and take his leap of faith. Check it."
Inquiry Session (Scripted Questions)
Ask the following precise questions to spark high-status responses:
The Synthesis Prompt
"This scene shows us the exact definition of a REMIX. Miles didn't throw away the Spider-Man powers. He just took the power, cut the parts that didn't fit him, and added his own personal flavor. That's what we are doing in this studio. We are taking the scripts of life, chopping the static, and dropping our own version. Now, let's map your signature handprint."
THE REMIX PROJECT • KICKOFF SESSION MASTER SCRIPT PAGE 4 OF 8
Session 1 Script • Block 3
The active, creative design phase where students construct their handprint.
Launch Block 3
Activity Mechanics: Distribute the "Sonic Handprint Handout" (Page 7) to each boy. Play a low-volume ambient instrumental track (preferably a solid modern synth beat) to shield conversations and protect peer focus. Give them 12 minutes to draft.
Worksheet Delivery Script
"Fellas, check the boards in front of you. This is your Sonic Handprint. Think of it like your digital dashboard or audio layout board. You see three distinct track tracks on this vinyl record. Track 1 is your Anthem—the song, the hype, or the style that represents your outer drive when you walk into school. Track 2 is your Low Frequency—the chill or heavy song that represents what you listen to when you're overwhelmed or stressed. Track 3 is the Sample You Cut—the label, the insult, or the toxic stereotype you refuse to repeat. At the bottom, list your Core Bassline: the real crew you ride for. Keep it real. No boundaries, just truth."
Facilitating the Peer Exchange (High-Impact Sharing)
"Time's up. Lay your pens down. We aren't doing public readings. Instead, turn to the brother sitting on your left. We are doing a 90-second 'Studio Exchange.' You have exactly 45 seconds to share one track from your handprint and explain why that loop is crucial to your signature style. When you hear your partner's track, your only job is to nod and say 'Locked in.' Let's cycle."
Somatic Regulation Check (The "Volume Adjustment")
If the energy spikes too high or students start shouting/playing:
DO NOT yell. Instantly tap a steady, slow rhythm on your table or speaker. Say: "Checking the equalizer. Our room volume is currently running in the red zone—too much static, clipping the audio signals. Let's pull the master slider down. Inhale for 4 beats... drop the fader... exhale for 4 beats. Back to baseline. Lock in."

Session 1 Script • Block 4
The closing circle ceremony that anchors the launch into action.
Launch Block 4
The Closing Geometry: Cut all transition music. LED lights dimmed down further. Standing in a tight circle around the signature "Vibe Record." Hand out the "Launch Tickets" (Page 8) before they walk out the door.
The Graduation Ceremony Script
"Fellas, look at this circle. Look at the names signed on this vinyl record. Today, you didn't just attend a class. You officially launched the Studio. You laid down your starting baseline. You made an agreement to ride for the brothers in this circle, to protect their tracks, and to check your own faders when the static gets too loud. From this moment on, you are no longer standard students. You are active Producers of your own life."
The Handshake/Fist-Bump Ritual
"We don't close with bell signals here. We close with the 'Studio Tap.' It is a triple-beat: fist-bump the brother on your left, fist-bump the brother on your right, then tap your heart. Let's start the chain... thump, thump, tap. Lock it down."
The Hallway Challenge (Pacing Task)
Weekly Mission Blueprint:
"Your mission this week is simple: observe the hallway noise. When you hear people gossiping, rumors dropping, or guys trying to act hyper-tough to survive class, just stand tall, take one steady breath, and say to yourself: 'That's just copycat static. I'm keeping my baseline clean.' See you in the studio next Thursday. Grab your Launch Tickets on the way out!"
