Facilitator Guiding Principles for 5th Grade Boys
1. Side-by-Side Rapport: Sit angled, not face-to-face. Use props/cards to reduce pressure.
2. Normalize Anger: Anger is high-octane data. The goal is driving the energy wisely.
3. Tactical Language: Use gaming/sports metaphors ("Circuit Breakers," "Radar," "Upgrades").
4. No Trap Questions: Avoid "Why did you do that?" Ask "What did your radar say?"

Week 1 Protocols
Days 1–5: Self-Regulation & Calming
Internal Control
DAY 1: Internal Radar & Body Clues (25 Mins) Focus: Early Detection
Script Hook: "Your body knows you’re angry before your brain does. What lights up first? Jaw clenching? Fist tightening? Rapid pulse?"
Activity: Complete Journal Body Map. Identify top 2 "Early Warning Sirens."
Scenario Drill: Card #1 (The Unfair Gym Call). Spot early tension before reacting.
DAY 2: The 5-Second Circuit Breaker (25 Mins) Focus: Tactical Calming
Script Hook: "When the engine overheats, stomping the gas causes a crash. We test 3 tactical breakers to cool down in under 10 seconds."
1. Box Breath: 4s in, 4s hold, 4s out, 4s hold.
2. Palm Press: Isolate tension under desk.
3. 5-4-3-2-1: Quick sensory grounder.
DAY 3: Glitch vs. Crash – Problem Sizing (25 Mins) Focus: Reaction Matching
Script Hook: "A dropped pencil is a minor glitch (Level 1). Reacting with a Level 5 nuclear blast creates bigger problems. Match energy to reality."
Rating Drill: Sort daily events into Level 1 (Glitch), Level 2 (Bump), Level 3 (Crisis).
Scenario Drill: Card #2 (Chromebook Crash during game/assignment).
DAY 4: Flipping the Internal Script (25 Mins) Focus: Cognitive Agility
Script Hook: "When your brain screams 'He did that on purpose to ruin my day!', is that guaranteed fact, or brain fiction?"
Reframing Tool: Replace "He hates me" with "He's distracted" or "I can handle this."
Scenario Drill: Card #4 (Crowded Hallway bump / locker shove).
DAY 5: The Reset Protocol & Mid-Point Check (25 Mins) Focus: Safe De-escalation
Script Hook: "Even pro athletes take timeouts. A Reset is not quitting; it's a strategic pit stop to avoid wrecking the car."
Classroom Code: Agree on a discreet 2-finger signal for a 2-min water reset.
Check-In: Complete Journal Week 1 Level Up Review & award Week 1 Badge.

Week 2 Protocols
Days 6–10: Social Radar & Conflict Mastery
Peer Navigation
DAY 6: Reading the Room – Social Radar (25 Mins) Focus: Non-Verbal Clues
Script Hook: "When a friend rolls their eyes, crosses arms, or turns away, what is their radar broadcasting?"
Facial & Posture Drill: Coach acts out 3 subtle states (annoyed, joking, insecure). Student decodes.
Scenario Drill: Card #6 (The Lunchroom Joke that Stung).
DAY 7: Banter vs. Boundary Line (25 Mins) Focus: Assertive Voice
Script Hook: "When roasting crosses the line, you don't explode or swallow it. You drop the 'Firm Calm' boundary."
Formula: Direct eye contact + steady voice + "That's not cool, knock it off." (Walk away).
Scenario Drill: Card #7 (Group Chat / Gaming banter gone too far).
DAY 8: Fair Play & Recess Disagreements (25 Mins) Focus: Sportsmanship
Script Hook: "Bad calls happen in sports. If you argue for 10 minutes, recess is over and everyone loses."
10-Second Dispute Rule: Rock-Paper-Scissors or Re-play the down without escalation.
Scenario Drill: Card #8 (Disputed Out in Recess Kickball).
DAY 9: Active Listening & Real Apologies (25 Mins) Focus: Repair Protocol
Script Hook: "A fake apology sounds like 'Sorry IF you got mad.' A high-mastery apology owns the action and fixes the damage."
1. Own it: "I shouted at you..."
2. Acknowledge: "...and that ruined the game."
3. Repair: "Next time I'll use a reset."
DAY 10: Boss Level Simulation & Graduation (25 Mins) Focus: Integration & Mastery
Script Hook: "Today is the Boss Level. Rapid-fire triple challenge: a tech glitch, an unfair call, and peer teasing."
Sim Gauntlet: Run Cards #5, #9, #10 back-to-back with student demonstrating tools.
Award & Code: Sign "Personal Action Code" in Journal and present Certificate.

Handling Common 5th-Grade Pushback & Shut-Downs
Pushback: "I don't care / this is stupid / why am I even here?"
Coach Response: "Fair enough. Nobody likes being pulled out of class. You don't have to love this, but I respect you too much to watch you lose recess or get benched because someone pushed your buttons. Let's make you immune to their tricks."
Pushback: "It wasn't my fault! He started it first!"
Coach Response: "I 100% believe he set the trap. But when you explode, who gets sent to the office? You. He got away with it and you took the penalty. Let's make sure you never take someone else's penalty again."
Pushback: Student puts head down / refuses to speak.
Coach Response: "No talking required right now. Your battery is in the red. We're going to set a 2-minute timer to chill. You can doodle in the journal or just breathe. When the timer dings, we do 1 card."
