Lesson Internalization Protocol Guide
Instructional Internalization Protocol
Academic Recovery & Xello Mastery
Advisory / Intervention
Lesson Window: 90 Min Block
Target of the Day (TOD) Framework TEKS & CCR Aligned
TEKS / Focus: Grade Analysis • Xello Career Readiness (100% To-Do List) • Academic Recovery / Make-Up Work
Objective: Students will check and analyze their grades, complete their Xello To-Do list, and work on any missing coursework or Edgenuity credits.
DOL: Students will complete their Grade Analysis Form and create an actionable recovery plan if failing classes. They will complete 100% of their Xello To-Do list. After completing both milestones, students will execute make-up work for classes or Edgenuity.
Know (Conceptual Understanding)
- • Discrepancy between missing grades (zeros) vs. low mastery scores.
- • GPA, high school credit requirements, and graduation pathway pacing.
- • Order of operations: Diagnosis → District Compliance → Content Recovery.
Show (Demonstration of Learning)
- • 100% completed Grade Analysis Form with exact teacher names & zero counts.
- • Specific 3-step action plan for any grade < 70% (contact teacher, test re-take, late work).
- • Verified 100% green checkmark status on all active Xello to-do items.
1 Welcome & Launch Protocol
Pacing: 10 Minutes
Hook & High-Stakes Framing (Teacher Script)
“Scholars, your transcript is your academic currency. Today is dedicated to taking full ownership of your trajectory. We follow a strict 3-phase execution order: First, audit every single grade and build a recovery plan. Second, secure 100% completion on Xello for district graduation milestones. Third, use every remaining minute on make-up work or Edgenuity modules to immediately elevate your GPA.”
Tech Setup
Dual-browser tabs open: Tab 1 (SIS Grade Portal), Tab 2 (Xello via Clever/SSO). Edgenuity tab queued for phase 3.
Work Climate
Silent, focused environment. Headphones reserved exclusively for Edgenuity instructional videos.
Gate System
Students cannot advance to Make-up / Edgenuity without teacher signature verifying Grade Sheet + Xello 100%.

Tier 1 (First Teach) Core Instruction: Modeling & Guided Practice
Pacing: 20 Minutes
“I Do” Teacher Modeling: Screen-Share Grade Audit & Xello Diagnostic
10 Mins
Step 1: SIS Grade Portal Drill-Down
Project student portal. Model clicking into each period to inspect grade category breakdowns (Formative vs. Summative). Highlight how a single missing zero drags a 74% down to a 58%.
Step 2: Diagnosis & Action Plan
Model completing the Action Plan row: “Algebra I: 64%. Root cause: 2 missing homework assignments and 1 failed quiz. Action: Complete makeup packet by Thursday; email teacher for retake.”
Step 3: Xello Dashboard Verification
Show live Xello homepage. Point to the “To-Do List” card. Show what incomplete tasks look like versus a 100% complete milestone (all checkmarks green, “Done” status).
Teacher Think-Aloud & Framing Script
“Watch how I examine my grade book. I don't just look at the overall number. I click into Biology. I see an 68%. I don't say 'I'm bad at science'—I inspect the evidence. Here are two zeroes for labs, but my test grade was an 82. This tells me my content mastery is solid, but my submission consistency is hurting my credit. That means turning in those two labs will immediately recover my credit above 70%.”
“We Do” Guided Practice & Rapid Check for Understanding (CFU)
10 Mins
Synchronous Class Audit (Period 1-2)
Every student logs into SIS simultaneously. Teacher conducts a 3-minute guided audit of Period 1 and Period 2. Students write down current percentage, teacher name, and exact count of zeroes.
CFU Prompt: “Give me thumbs up if you have zero missing assignments in Period 1; hold up fingers corresponding to how many zeroes you have.”
Anticipated Misconceptions & Teacher Pivots
Misconception: “Xello says 75%, so I'm basically done and can do makeup work now.”
Teacher Pivot: Non-negotiable standard is 100%. District graduation dashboard flags partial completions as non-compliant.
Misconception: “I'm failing because my teacher doesn't like me.”
Teacher Pivot: Pivot immediately to the portal data: list the missing dates and assignments.
Non-Negotiable Execution Hierarchy (The 3 Gates)
GATE 1: AUDIT
Complete Grade Analysis & Action Plan for all classes < 70%
GATE 2: XELLO 100%
Complete all pending To-Do activities until dashboard displays 100%
GATE 3: RECOVERY
Work exclusively on missing assignments or Edgenuity credit recovery

Application, Embedded Tier 2 Supports & Closing
Pacing: 60 Minutes Total
Tier 1 Application & Aggressive Monitoring Protocol (Pacing: 50 Mins)
Independent Work
Lap 1: Audit Verification Mins 0-15
Look-for: Every student has opened SIS and filled in all 7/8 periods. Action plans have specific assignment titles, not generic statements.
Code: [P] Passed / [F] Plan Needed
Lap 2: Xello 100% Sign-Off Mins 15-30
Look-for: Teacher stamps/signs student form when Xello shows 100% completed to-do list. Unlocks Gate 3 access to coursework.
Code: [X100] Verified / [Inc] Incomplete
Lap 3: Task Engagement Mins 30-50
Look-for: Students actively completing LMS missing submissions or advancing Edgenuity progress bar (>5% gain per session).
Code: [W] Working / [E] Edgenuity Active
Embedded Tier 2 (Second Teach) Intervention Playbook
Tier 2 Group A: High-Risk Students (Failing ≥ 2 Core Courses)
Intervention Move: Pull small group to kidney table. Conduct guided triage: identify highest-weight assignments that take < 20 minutes to produce the fastest grade bump. Provide structured teacher-email template to request late-submission grace.
Tier 2 Group B: Stuck on Xello Assessments / Reading Barrier
Intervention Move: Assist with Clever single sign-on reset. Turn on Xello's built-in text-to-speech accommodation tool. Chunk matchmaker questions into 10-item sprints with quick teacher check-ins.
Tier 2 Group C: Credit Recovery / Edgenuity Blockers
Intervention Move: Unlock quizzes for students at 70%+ quiz retake threshold. Conduct guided note-taking check before retakes to ensure active mastery and avoid repeat failures.
4 Exit Ticket & Closing Protocol
Pacing: 10 Minutes
Demonstration of Learning Collection
Teacher collects completed Grade Analysis & Action Plan forms. Forms must show teacher initial/stamp for Xello 100% verification.
Accountability Standard: If form is incomplete or Xello is < 100%, student is assigned to mandatory lunch advisory follow-up.
Closing Debrief & Commitment Prompt
Scholars write their primary 24-hour academic commitment on the bottom slip of their sheet:
“By tomorrow at 4:00 PM, I will complete [Specific Assignment] for [Teacher Name] to protect my credit.”
