Before We Read
Have you ever missed someone?
In Our Bodies
- Our chest might feel heavy or achy
- A tiny lump in our throat or watery eyes
- Wishing for a big, cozy cuddle
In Our Thoughts
- Remembering their smile and voice
- Wondering what they are doing right now
- Wanting to show them something special
Missing someone means we love them very, very much.
Story Discovery
What is the Invisible String?
Made of Love
Eyes cannot see it, but your heart can feel it anytime you think of them.
Heart-to-Heart
It connects directly from your heart to the hearts of everyone you cherish.
Never Breaks
No matter what happens, love is strong. The string never, ever snaps!
When you give it a tug in your heart, they feel it too!
Connection Anywhere
How far can your string stretch?
Across Town
While you are at school and your grown-ups are at work or at home.
Far Across the World
To grandparents, cousins, or friends who live in another city or country.
Even Up to the Stars
To someone special or a beloved pet who has died and passed away.
Even when someone dies, the love in your string never ends.
Tender Moments
When we lose someone we love
1. Tears Are Okay
Crying is your heart's way of letting sadness out. You are safe to feel sad.
2. Share Memories
Tell a story, say their name, or draw a picture of your favorite times together.
3. Ask for a Hug
Find a grown-up or a good friend when your heart feels heavy and needs comfort.
They may be gone from our sight, but never from our string.
Heart Exercise
Let's practice a “Heart Tug”!
1
Hands on Heart
Gently place both hands flat over your chest. Feel your heart beat quietly.
2
Picture Someone
Think of someone you miss. Imagine their warm smile looking back at you.
3
Send a Gentle Tug
Take a deep breath in... and whisper: “I love you, and you are with me.”
Breathe in love... and breathe out peace.
