This briefing helps students navigate social situations, reduce stress, and build the internal resilience needed for middle school and beyond. Learning Objectives Identify various emotions through physical and social cues. Learn healthy strategies for expressing and managing intense feelings. Equipment Checklist Emotion Superpowers Slide Deck Whiteboard or Projector Emotion Charades Activity Cards Emotion Check-In Worksheets Pre-Mission Prep Review the slide deck content. Print and cut the Emotion Charades Cards. Ensure enough Check-In Worksheets are copied for the entire class. The Mission Sequence 1 Warm-Up: How Are You Really Feeling? 5 MIN Begin by asking students to think about how they are feeling right now. Introduce the concept that emotions are powerful signals. Use Slide 2 to prompt discussion. Ask students to share one emotion they are feeling and why (participation is optional). Emphasize that all emotions are valid and carry information. 2 Introducing Emotion Superpowers 5 MIN Explain that emotions are like 'superpowers' because they give us information and energy. Discuss common emotions (happy, sad, angry, scared, surprised) using Slides 3-5. Focus on physical sensations—how do these feelings manifest in our bodies? Lead a brief discussion on the "action urge" each emotion creates. 3 Emotion Charades Activity 10 MIN Divide students into small groups. Distribute Emotion Charades Cards. Students take turns acting out the emotion on their card (no speaking). Groups guess the emotion. Debrief as a class: "What clues did you see?" and "When might someone feel this way?" Refer to Slide 6 for visual cues. 4 Healthy Emotion Check-In 5 MIN Distribute the Emotion Check-In Worksheet. Guide students through reflecting on a recent strong emotion. Introduce healthy coping strategies (talking, deep breaths, breaks) using Slides 7-8. Have students select and record one new strategy they want to try in their "toolbox." 5 Cool-Down & Exit Ticket 5 MIN Have students complete the final section of their worksheet as an exit ticket. Reinforce that emotional intelligence is a journey. Refer to Slide 9 for a concluding thought. Collect worksheets to check for student understanding and potential support needs.
