Intro to Your Zones
A framework for self-awareness, emotional regulation, and personal empowerment.
Welcome participants and set the stage. Explain that this deck will introduce the Zones framework—a tool to help us notice and regulate our feelings and energy levels.
What Are the Zones?
The Zones of Regulation categorize our feelings and energy levels into four distinct colors.
"Zones are not 'good' or 'bad.' They are just names for how we feel and act in a moment."
Blue Low Energy
Green Alert & Calm
Yellow Heightened
Red Extreme
Read the definition aloud. Emphasize that Zones are not “good” or “bad,” but simply ways to describe how we’re feeling and acting.
Blue Zone
Feelings
- Sad or Tired
- Bored or Sick
- Low Energy
Behaviors
- Moving slowly
- Slouching
- Quiet or withdrawn
"When we’re in the Blue Zone, we need strategies to wake up and feel more alert."
Describe each emotion and behavior. Invite participants to share a quick example of a Blue Zone moment.
Green Zone
Feelings
- Happy & Calm
- Focused & Content
- Ready to learn
Behaviors
- Cooperative
- Open to new ideas
- Good listener
"The Green Zone is our optimal state for learning and social engagement."
Explain how the Green Zone is the goal for most classroom and work situations. Ask: “What helps you stay in the Green Zone?”
Yellow Zone
Feelings
- Frustrated / Anxious
- Excited / Silly
- Overwhelmed
Behaviors
- Fidgeting
- Loss of focus
- Impulsive comments
"In the Yellow Zone, we use self-calming strategies before things escalate."
Highlight that Yellow Zone isn’t “bad,” but a warning sign. Prompt: “Share a time you were in the Yellow Zone and caught yourself.”
Red Zone
Feelings
- Anger / Panic
- Extreme Excitement
- Out of Control
