Honesty Circle Facilitator Guide
The Honesty Circle
Leader Facilitation Guide • Grades K-2
20 Minutes
Core Value: Integrity
Circle Anywhere
The Hook (3 Mins)
Gather your campers in a circle. Explain that today we are entering the Honesty Circle. This is a special place where we practice being brave truth-tellers.
Leader Script: "Integrity is a big word that means being honest and doing the right thing, even when it's hard. Today, we're going to act out some situations to practice our 'Honesty Muscle'!"
Acting it Out (12 Mins)
3 Common Scenarios
1
The Sandcastle Slip-Up
The Situation: You were running and accidentally stepped on a friend's sandcastle. They didn't see you, but they look very sad when they see the damage.
Honest Response
"I'm sorry, I was running and accidentally broke it. Can I help you fix it?"
Lesson Goal
Admitting an accident immediately and offering a solution.
2
The Cookie Caper
The Situation: You ate the last cookie from the tray. A leader asks the group, "Does anyone know what happened to the last cookie?"
Honest Response
"I ate it! I was really hungry and didn't realize it was the last one."
Lesson Goal
Practicing the courage to speak up even when feeling "guilty."
3
The Marker Mess
The Situation: It was your turn to put the markers away, but you went to play tag instead. Your leader asks, "Did you finish cleaning up the markers?"
Honest Response
"No, I didn't. I wanted to play tag and forgot. I'll go do it right now!"
Lesson Goal
Owning a mistake and showing accountability through action.
Lying vs. Telling the Truth (3 Mins)
Ask: "What happens to our hearts when we lie versus when we tell the truth?"
When we lie...
- We feel "heavy" or "sticky" inside.
- We have to remember the lie later.
- Friends might lose trust in us.
When we tell the truth...
- We feel "light," "brave," and clean.
- The problem can actually be fixed.
- Leaders know they can count on us.
The Honest Pledge (2 Mins)
Pass an imaginary "Honesty Stone" (or a real one if found!) around the circle. Each camper completes the sentence:
"Being honest is important because..."
Trust Bravery Friends Integrity
Leader Pro-Tips
Safe Space: If a camper admits a real truth during the circle, praise their bravery first before discussing the consequence.
Keep it Light: K-2 campers often lie because they fear "getting in trouble." Focus on how the truth fixes things.
