STAGE 01: DEFINING RESPECT
What is Respect?
Respect isn't just about obeying rules or being quiet. It's a choice to show that you value the feelings, spaces, and rights of everyone around you.
"We respect people not because of who they are, but because of how we choose to treat them."
Notice & Value
Paying attention to what others need and showing they matter to you.
Protect Boundaries
Honoring personal space, rules, property, and feelings.

STAGE 02: THE THREE DIMENSIONS
The 3D Respect Radar
To master the radar, you must track respect in three distinct directions:
1. Respect Self
Believing in your value. Taking care of your mind, body, and work. Standing up for yourself and setting boundaries.
Radar Cue
"Am I speaking kindly to myself and doing my best?"
2. Respect Others
Listening when others speak, valuing different opinions, being polite, and treating people with basic dignity.
Radar Cue
"Am I listening and letting others be who they are?"
3. Respect Place
Caring for property, the physical classroom, school supplies, public parks, and our shared natural environment.
Radar Cue
"Am I leaving this space better than I found it?"

RECON SCENARIO: RED ALERT
CASE FILE 01
HIGH PRIORITY Lobby Interruption
The Group Shutout
During science group-planning, Leo suggests a volcano build. Maya instantly cuts him off: "No, that's a baby idea. We're doing a solar system poster, and I'm leading it." Leo goes quiet, looks down, and stops contributing altogether.
A
Maya's goal is good, so her interruption is harmless.
B
Leo is overreacting; he should fight for his idea.
Recon Partner Talk
Turn to your neighbor and scan this file:
- What aspect of Maya's speech showed disrespect? (Words? Tone?)
- How could Maya propose her idea while showing value for Leo?
- Which of the 3 Dimensions (Self, Others, Place) is damaged here?

RECON SCENARIO: RED ALERT
CASE FILE 02
MEDIUM PRIORITY Property Boundary Violation
The Unofficial Loan
While Chloe is at the whiteboard, Liam notices her desk container has a set of fancy pastel markers. Without asking, Liam grabs three of them to color his project sheet. When Chloe returns, she gets upset because her markers are uncapped and messy.
A
Liam was just sharing class resources; it's fine.
B
Personal supplies represent boundary lines; ask first.
Recon Partner Talk
Turn to your neighbor and scan this file:
- Is Liam respecting "Others" or "Place" or neither? Why?
- How do boundaries make people feel safe in a workspace?
- Give Liam a direct script he should have used instead.

RECON SCENARIO: RED ALERT
CASE FILE 03
HIGH PRIORITY Peer Social Inclusion
The Silent Sideline
A group is playing four-square. Noah asks, "Can I get in the line?" Two players glance at each other, shrug, and turn back without answering. They continue playing and ignore Noah like he isn't even standing there.
A
If it's their game, they can choose players as they wish.
B
Ignoring a peer completely damages human dignity.
Recon Partner Talk
Turn to your neighbor and scan this file:
- What makes ignoring someone hurt as much as mean words?
- What are some respectful ways to handle an overfilled game?
- How could a spectator step in to show respect?

MISSION DEPLOYMENT
STAGE 03: AGENT TASKS
Active Duty: Respect Patrol
You are now fully certified Respect Agents. Your task is to patrol your daily interactions and log respect in action. Use these three checks before acting:
1. Words & Volume
Am I speaking at a level and tone that lets others focus, feel valued, and learn?
2. Personal Lines
Am I keeping my hands, feet, and comments out of other people's designated boundaries?
3. Space Care
Am I picking up mess, using shared supplies gently, and preserving our classroom?

Teacher Scripts & Facilitation Prompts
Slide 1 & 2 • Introducing the Theme
"Welcome, Agents. Today our classroom transforms into a Recon Headquarters. We are launching our 'Respect Radar' system. In life, there are signals bouncing off everything we do. Our task is to learn how to scan situations and choices to see if they are outputting signals of RESPECT or DISRESPECT. Grab your field casebooks and fill in your Agent name."
Slide 3 • The Three Directions
"Our radar has three sweep channels: Channel 1 is Self-Respect: are we valuing our own work and potential? Channel 2 is Respecting Others: recognizing that our classmates' space, ideas, and voices have value. Channel 3 is Respecting Place: are we leaving our physical space, textbooks, and common areas cleaner than we found them?"
➔ Action Check: Instruct students to fill in the target descriptions on Phase 1 of their Casebook sheets.
Deep-Dive Inquiry Prompts (Use During Slide 3)
- "Why is self-respect the baseline of our radar? Can you respect others if you do not respect yourself?"
- "What's the difference between ignoring a rule and disrespecting a space? How do they overlap?"
- "Why is respect an active verb rather than just avoiding getting into trouble?"
