Instructional Sequence
01
The Battery Hook (5-10 mins)
Begin by asking students: "Have you ever played a game where your character runs out of health or battery? How does that feel?" Connect this to our energy in real life.
Teacher Script: "Our thoughts are like the battery for our brain. Some thoughts give us a 'Power-Up' and make our battery go up! Other thoughts are like 'Glitches' that drain our energy and make things harder."
02
Reframing the Code (15 mins)
Use the Positive Power-Ups Slides to introduce the concept of "Self-Talk"—the private voice inside our heads.
Glitchy Thoughts
"I'm bad at this."
"I'll never learn this."
"This is too hard."
Power-Up Thoughts
"I'm learning how to do this."
"I can ask for help."
"Challenges make my brain grow."
03
The Reframer Lab (15-20 mins)
Students complete the Thought Reframer Worksheet . Walk around and encourage them to find the "hidden power" in each challenge.
Differentiation Tip: For younger students, do the first three together as a class, acting out the 'frustrated' face vs. the 'determined' face.
04
Level Up Closing (5 mins)
Have students share one "Power-Up" thought they used today. Distribute the Inner Hero Journal pages for a final reflection or as a take-home activity.
