Quarter Compass Teacher Guide Mapping the Final Quarter
Teacher Facilitation Guide
LEVEL: SECONDARY
Duration: 60-90 Minutes
Core Objective
Students will utilize visualization and intentional goal-setting to define a holistic version of "finishing strong"—one that prioritizes personal character, specific habits, and emotional well-being alongside academic achievement.
The Big Idea
"We don't just finish the school year; we choose who we are when it ends."
Required Materials
Mapping the Final Quarter Slide Deck
Future Me Journal Pages (1 per student)
Momentum Map Activity (1 per student)
Envelopes (Optional for letters)
Instructional Sequence
01
The Visualization (15 Mins)
Begin with the "June Self" Visualization . Have students close their eyes and imagine the final day of school. Ask: "How does your body feel? What is the expression on your face? What is one specific thing you are proud of that isn't a grade?"
Facilitator Note: Students often default to "I passed." Encourage them to think about relationships, stamina, or a specific project they mastered.
02
Defining the "Strong Finish" (15 Mins)
Use the Slide Deck to facilitate a discussion on holistic success. Transition from the "What" (Grades) to the "How" (Integrity, Persistence, Presence).
The Sprint vs. The Marathon: Why momentum matters in the final quarter.
Value Identification: Selecting 3 core values for the season.
03
Letter to My June Self (25 Mins)
Students complete the Future Me Journal Page . This is a semi-structured letter written to themselves from their current perspective, focusing on encouragement and reminders.
Guiding Prompts:
What will be the hardest obstacle in May?
How will you treat your friends during finals?
What do you want to say 'No' to?
Success Criteria:
Letter is written in the second person ("You").
Includes at least one "non-academic" goal.
Authentic tone of self-compassion.
04
The Momentum Map (15 Mins)
Transition from vision to action . Students identify 3 small habits that will sustain them. They will use the Momentum Map Activity to track these habits over the next two weeks.
Example: "I will leave my phone in another room while doing homework" or "I will spend 5 minutes outside each afternoon."
Differentiation & Adaptations
Support
Provide the "Sentence Starter" version of the Journal Page. Allow students to use bullet points for the letter instead of full paragraphs. Partner up for the Habit Tracking to create accountability buddies.
Extension
Have students design a "Visual Vision Board" on the back of their Momentum Map. Invite students to write a short "Advice Column" for incoming students about how to navigate the final quarter.
Closure & Reflection
Conclude by asking students to share one "Word of the Season." This word should represent the energy they want to carry through the end of the year. If using physical letters, have students seal their envelopes to be opened during the final week of school.
Your map is ready. Lead the way.

What word do you need most?
Letter to My June Self
You are writing to yourself 8 weeks in the future.
Guidelines:
• Use "You" (Second Person)
• Be honest about the struggle
• Offer specific encouragement
• Identify one non-grade goal
Dear June Me,
I know right now you might be feeling tired. The sun is out, and the year is almost over. But I want to remind you why we started this...
I hope you didn't give up on that one habit. I hope you treated your friends well even when exams were stressful...
Building Momentum
Motivation gets you started. Habits keep you going.
Identify 3 Small Things:
1
One academic habit (e.g. 20 min review)
2
One wellness habit (e.g. 10 PM sleep)
3
One mindset habit (e.g. 5 min reflection)
Small Wins = Large Gains
"We don't just finish the school year; we choose who we are when it ends."
Open your map. Begin the journey.

Visualization Reminder
Think back to your June 1st visualization. The air is warm, the final bell has rung. You are walking out the door. Who is that person? What are they proud of? Write this letter to *them* from where you are standing right now.
The Letter
Dear June Me,
Sincerely,
A Warning for May
What is the biggest obstacle you think your future self will face? Give them advice on how to handle it.
One Kind Reminder
Write one phrase or quote that you want your future self to keep in mind when things feel overwhelming.

Refueling Strategies
When your momentum slows down (and it will), what are two things you can do to get back on track?
"A map is only as good as the traveler."
