Purpose
Building self-esteem in ninth graders fosters resilience, improves academic engagement, and supports mental well-being by equipping students with tools for positive self-reflection and confidence.
Objective
Students will identify personal strengths, develop positive self-talk strategies, and create a personalized action plan to boost their self-esteem.
Preparation Checklist
Print copies of Self-Esteem Reflection Worksheet and Confidence Action Plan Template for each student.
Assemble or print Positive Self-Talk Strategy Cards .
Familiarize yourself with each activity and key discussion prompts.
Arrange seating in small clusters to encourage partner work.
Set up a visible timer or clock for pacing.

Introduction & Warm-Up
Greet students and explain the purpose: building inner confidence. Share objectives. Quick icebreaker: each student names one thing they like about themselves.

Distribute Self-Esteem Reflection Worksheet . Instruct students to reflect on past successes and values. Reassure confidentiality.

Strengths Identification
Pair students up to share two strengths from their worksheets. Partners offer positive feedback. Facilitate 2–3 volunteers sharing highlights with the whole group.

Self-Talk Strategy Exploration
Introduce positive vs. negative self-talk. Hand out Strategy Cards . Students select two and write personalized affirmations.

Action Plan Creation
Provide Confidence Action Plan Template . Students set one short-term and one long-term goal with specific steps and timelines.

Wrap-Up & Share
Invite volunteers to share one action step. Summarize key takeaways. Encourage students to practice their plans daily.
