Learning about healthy friendships empowers students to build positive relationships, communicate effectively, and resolve conflicts, contributing to their overall social-emotional well-being.
Objective
Students will be able to identify key characteristics of healthy friendships and discuss common challenges that arise in friendships.
Preparation (10 min)
Review the Friendship Fix-Up Slide Deck .
Print and cut out the Friendship Scenario Cards .
Make copies of the Friendship Fix-Up Activity Sheet .
Gather small whiteboards/paper and markers.

THE REPAIR PROCESS

1. Warm-Up: What Makes a Friend?
Slide 2: Begin by asking students: "What are some words that come to mind when you think of a good friend?"
Allow students to share their ideas, writing them on the board or a chart paper. Aim to build a "Friendship Blueprint" of positive traits.

2. Introducing Healthy Friendships
Slides 3-5: Use the slide deck to discuss the characteristics of healthy friendships (Trust, Respect, Honesty, Support, Good Communication).
Encourage students to share examples from their own lives (remind them to keep names private to maintain respect for others).

3. Friendship Scenario Activity
Slide 6: Divide students into small groups (2-3 students per group). Provide each group with one Scenario Card and an Activity Sheet .
Instruct groups to read their scenario and discuss how they would "fix" the challenge using the healthy friendship traits discussed earlier.
Students should record their resolution plan on the Activity Sheet.

4. Share and Discuss
Slide 7: Bring groups back together. Have each group briefly share their scenario and their "Fix-Up" plan.
Facilitate a discussion on common themes (e.g., why honesty matters more than just "being nice" in tough moments).

5. Cool-Down: One Takeaway
Slide 8: Ask each student to share one new idea or strategy they learned today. Close by emphasizing that strong friendships take effort and "maintenance."
