Display Slide 2: How Are You Feeling Today?
"Good morning, everyone! Let's start by checking in with ourselves. Take a moment to think about how you're feeling right now. Look at these emojis on the screen. Do any of them describe how you feel? Are you feeling happy, sad, calm, worried, angry, or excited?"
"You don't have to share out loud, but just mentally pick one, or even do a quiet thumbs up for good, thumbs down for not-so-good, or thumbs to the side for in-between. Just be honest with yourselves."
"It's totally normal to feel all sorts of emotions throughout the day, isn't it? Sometimes we feel happy and excited, and other times we might feel a bit worried or frustrated. And that's okay! Today, we're going to talk about something super important: how we can manage all those different feelings in healthy ways. We're going to discover our emotional 'superpowers'!"

Display Slide 3: What Are Coping Skills?
"So, what exactly are these 'superpowers' I'm talking about? We call them coping skills. Think of coping skills like tools in your emotional toolbox. Just like a carpenter uses different tools for different jobs, we use different coping skills to handle different feelings and challenges."
"Coping skills are healthy ways we deal with strong feelings, stress, or tough situations. They help us feel better, calm down, and even solve problems. Instead of letting big emotions take over, coping skills help us take control."
Display Slide 4: Why Do We Need Them?
"Why do we need these tools? Well, life can be tricky, even for 5th graders! Have you ever felt super stressed about a test? Or maybe frustrated with a friend who wasn't fair? What about feeling sad because something didn't go your way, or overwhelmed with all your homework?"
"These are all normal feelings, and coping skills help you take charge when they happen. They help you pause, think, and choose a good way to respond instead of reacting quickly in a way you might regret later."

Display Slide 5 & 6: Coping Skills Examples
"Now, let's talk about what some of these coping skills might be. I bet many of you already use some without even realizing it! What are some things you do to feel better when you're having a tough time?"
[Pause for student responses. Guide them to share. Use prompts from Slide 5.]
"Great ideas! Some people find that talking to a trusted adult really helps. Others might take a few deep breaths to calm their body, or listen to their favorite music. Maybe you like to go outside and play, or draw in a notebook."
