Turn to your seat neighbor. Take turns reading this 30-second script!
PARTNER A The "Instigator"
"Hey! You've been on that Chromebook game for too long, I want it now!"
(Pretend to playfully cut in front of them)
PARTNER B The "Brake Operator"
STOP: Take 1 deep balloon breath.
THINK: Walk away or speak calmly?
ACT: Say: "I have 5 minutes left. I can give it to you next."

MISSION COMMAND SLIDE 07
Deploy Your Brakes!
You are now certified Brain Operators. It is time to complete your Workbook and build your Desk Badges.
1
Workbook Labs
Complete the Path Finder and Lab Trials to practice making optimal choices.
2
Desk Badges
Cut, fold, and tape your standing desk tent and slot your pocket card!
Remember: Your brain is the most powerful computer in the world! LAUNCH INITIATED
Activity 1 (Path Finder): Have them complete the bedtime and hallway bump scenarios. Circulate to ensure students understand that a "Brake Action" keeps options open (keeps bedtimes debatable, prevents physical confrontation).
Activity 2 & Lab Trials: For the two larger trials (frozen Chromebook and swing line shortcut), walk around and assist students who struggle with written spelling. Accept simple bullet points or key phrases (e.g., "Take a breath", "Ask politely").
Debrief Question: "In Trial 1, if you used the Gas Pedal (Route A) and smashed your laptop, what happens to your gaming privileges? Exactly—they are deleted. How does a Brake Action keep you playing?"
Step 3: Desk Badges & Token Craft (10 Minutes)
Assembly Instructions: Hand out the 1-page craft template. Give clear visual steps: (1) Cut along the outer solid border of the Desk Tent and pocket badges. (2) Crease along the dashed lines. (3) Fold into a standing triangle. (4) Secure the base tab with tape or glue.
5-Star Brake Tracker Challenge: Tell students that they have a pocket tracker. Whenever they catch themselves starting to lose their cool but successfully pause, they can color a star on their pocket card. Once they reach 5 stars, they earn a 'Master Operator' sticker.
Classroom Setup: Have students place their completed 3D Desk Tents at the top-right corner of their desks. Instruct them that when they feel overwhelmed, they can tap their desk tent physically to trigger their "Stop" step.
If a student freezes during crisis: Do not demand immediate verbal responses. Gently gesture toward their desk tent and say, "Let's tap the Red Stop button together. I'll take a breath with you." Give them 30 seconds of quiet space before starting the "Think" step.
Integrating into daily routines: Use "Brake Signals" before class transitions or when recess ends. Say: "Preparing for hallway transition! Brain Operators, show me your Stop posture." Have them freeze like statues for 5 seconds before walking out.
