Autumn Harmony Guide
Instructional delivery plan & discussion framework for emotional regulation.
Grades: K-3
Subject: Social-Emotional
1. Warm-Up (5m)
Gather students and ask: "What happens to the leaves in autumn? They slowly let go and drift down gently."
Explain that just like a falling leaf, when we are frustrated, we can practice "letting go" of angry tension and choosing a calm, quiet behavior instead of blowing up.
Key Concept:
Harvesting Calm: Gathering positive choices like a farmer harvests crops.
2. Activity (15m)
Distribute the Autumn Harmony Worksheet. Read through the 8 behaviors as a whole group or have students read independently.
Have them use crayons or colored pencils to color the autumn harvest scene using the code key:
- Blue for calm-down choices.
- Orange for reactive behaviors.
Facilitation Tip:
Encourage children to appreciate the cozy colors. Remind them that blue represents the calming cool sky and autumn wind.
3. Reflect (10m)
Help students complete the bottom reflection prompts. Guide them to recognize physical signs of anger (clenched fists, racing heart).
Have students share their favorite Calm Choice with a peer and practice doing three deep belly breaths together as if blowing a leaf.
Guiding Question:
"How does our body help us know when we need to pause and make a calm choice?"
