Control Freak Slides Winter Edition
Cold Hard Agency
Main Character Energy: Don't let your life get frozen.
The Freeze Check
"It’s not my fault. The heater is broken. My parents are cold. The bus was late. The vibes are sub-zero."
Feeling stuck? It’s called Externalization. You're basically a background character waiting for the thaw.
Today's Mission:
Stop being frozen by excuses.
Own the Remote (The Internal Heater).
Level up your Main Character Chill.
Externalization
The "Blame" Blizzard
The Definition
Believing the world is a storm you can't control, and everything is someone else's fault.
The "Payoff"
It's "safe." If you're a victim of the weather, you don't have to try. You can just hibernate.
The Trap
If you blame the mountain for being tall, you'll never actually start climbing it.
Personal Agency
Ice In Your Veins
01
Build the Fire
You don't wait for life to get warm. You build the heat yourself through your choices.
02
Own the Gear
Bad stuff happens (snowstorms). You choose how you dress for it. No excuses.
03
Clear the Path
Stop complaining about the snow on your driveway. Grab a shovel and move.
Pick Your Climate
The Blizzard Loop
It Snows
"I'm cold. This sucks."

Stay Frozen
The Arctic Fire
It Snows
"Okay, it's cold, but..."
"Where's my jacket?"
Heat Up
The Excuse Ice Wall
"It's too cold to think." "My brain is frozen." "They didn't plow the road." "It's not my fault!" "I'm hibernating." "The Wi-Fi is shivering."
Reality Check:
Winter happens to everyone. Some people build snowmen, and some people just complain about being wet. Which one are you?
Micro-Agency Skills
1. Check the Temp
Before you blame, pause. Is this a "them" problem or an "I'm not prepared" problem?
2. Own the Shovel
Instead of "They made me fail," try "I didn't ask for help when I got stuck." Power move.
3. Focus on the Thaw
The past is frozen ice. You can't change it. The future is where the warmth is. Move there.
4. Melt the "But"
"I know I messed up, BUT..." No. Stop making icicles of excuses. Just own the mistake.
Excuses are for People Who Like Being Cold.
Agency is the coat you wear when life gets arctic.
Don't wait for someone to come and warm you up.
"The world owes you nothing. You owe yourself the heat."
Your Story.
Your Fire.

Part 1: The Blizzard Loop (Externalization)
Externalization is when you blame the "weather" for your problems. It’s "safe" because you don’t have to do anything, but you’re effectively frozen in place. List three "Blizzard Excuses" you've used recently:
Part 2: The Icebreaker
Let's shatter one of those excuses. Agency isn't about the world getting warmer; it's about you finding your own heat. Rewrite one excuse into an Agency statement.
The Cold Excuse (Blame)
Example: "I didn't do the work because the class is boring."
The Icebreaker (Agency)
Part 3: Sub-Zero Mission
Main Characters don't hibernate. What is one tiny thing you can take 100% responsibility for in the next 24 hours, regardless of how "cold" life feels?
Reality Check:
"Winter isn't happening to you. You are happening to winter."
The Cold Hard Truth
1. Why is it "easier" to blame the world for your failures? What is the secret payoff?
2. How does living as a "victim of the weather" keep you small and frozen?
3. What is one way taking agency feels like "Main Character Energy"?

The Winter Mission
1
Expose the "Blizzard Excuse" as a way to avoid the hard work of change.
2
Reframe "Agency" as the winter coat/fire that protects from systemic "cold."
3
Equip students with "Icebreaking" skills to take back control of their story.
Icy Discussion Prompts
The "Hibernation" Check:
"Externalizing is like hibernating. It’s warm, it’s safe, but you wake up and the world has passed you by. Are you hibernating right now or are you clearing the path?"
The "Systemic Blizzard":
"Sometimes the world really is a blizzard. It's cold, it's unfair, and it’s not your fault it’s snowing. But standing in the snow without a coat isn't a protest—it's just getting cold. Where's your agency (your coat)?"
The Power Move:
"Admitting 'I messed up' is the ultimate icebreaker. It shatters the wall of excuses and lets you move forward. Who’s brave enough to break some ice?"
Handling the Blizzard (Resistance)
The "Life is Unfair" Storm
Student: "You're saying it's my fault I'm here? You don't know my story."
Teacher Response: "I’m not saying it's your fault it's snowing. I'm saying it's your move now that you're in the storm. Agency isn't about blaming you for the past; it's about trusting you with your future."
The "Cold Hearted" Sarcasm
Student: "Cool metaphor, did you get that from a Disney movie?"
Teacher Response: "Hardly. Most Disney movies have better endings than the one you're writing for yourself right now. If you're bored of the metaphors, show me some real heat. What’s one thing you’re actually going to change today?"
