When I Hear "No"
Name:
Date:
At school, there are many fun things to do! Sometimes I can do what I want right away, and sometimes I have to wait or hear the word "No."
1
I Have Big Wants!
I love to build, play, and choose fun things at school. Sometimes I see a toy or an activity and I want it right now. Having things I enjoy is exciting!
🎨 "I really want to play right now!"
2
Hearing "No" or "Wait"
Sometimes my teacher or friend says, "No, thank you," or "Not right now." They say "no" to keep everyone safe and make sure we share.
🛑 Hearing "no" can be a surprise.
3
All Feelings Are Okay
When I hear "no", my body might feel hot, fast, or angry. It is 100% okay to feel frustrated or disappointed. Everyone feels mad sometimes!
❤️ "I feel mad, and that is okay."
4
Keep Everyone Safe
Screaming hurts friends' ears. Kicking chairs, walls, or toys can hurt feet or break items. Screaming and kicking do not change the answer—they just make things harder.
🛡️ My feet and mouth stay safe.

Calm Words (Use My Voice)
Talk It Out
Instead of screaming, I can use a calm, normal speaking voice. Teachers and friends listen best to calm words.
"Okay."
I accept the answer.
"Maybe later?"
I ask about next time.
"I need help."
I ask for a teacher's help.
