Date / Period:
Part 1: The Three Voices — Know the Difference
The Inner Critic
"I'm awful at this. Everyone thinks I'm weird. Why bother?"
The Trap: Exaggerates failure, uses words like always or never, shuts down effort.
Fake Positivity
"Everything is amazing! Just smile and nothing will go wrong!"
The Trap: Ignores real feelings, pretends problems don't exist, feels dishonest.
The Realistic Coach
"This is frustrating right now, but I can handle it step by step."
The Goal: Acknowledges the tough reality + focuses on what you can actually control.
Part 2: The 3-Step Remix Method
Step 1 • Catch It
Spot the Extremes
Notice physical tension and red-flag words: always, completely ruined, nobody, stupid.
Step 2 • Check It
Test the Evidence
Ask: Is this 100% fact or just my anxiety? Would I say this to my best friend?
Step 3 • Pivot It
Reframe with Action
Pair validation with a next step: "It's hard, AND I have tools to try."
Part 3: Guided Practice — Break Down a Spiral
Scenario
You worked hard for two nights studying for your Science test, but you received a C-. As you get your paper back, your brain fires off: "I'm hopeless at science. All that studying was totally pointless."
1. What dramatic or exaggerated words is the inner critic using here?
2. Reality Check: What is one real fact that proves the inner critic wrong? (Hint: Did studying teach you anything? Is one quiz your entire future?)
3. The Realistic Coach Pivot: Write a balanced, empowering statement you could tell yourself instead.

Part 4: Real-Life Situation Lab
For each middle school scenario, identify the trap and write an authentic Realistic Coach Reframe.
Situation A: Class Presentation Academic Stress
You must give a 2-minute history presentation. Standing in line to present, your heart races and you think: "I'm going to stutter, mess up in front of everyone, and die of embarrassment."
Inner Critic's False Claim:
Realistic Coach Remix:
Situation B: Cafeteria Whispers Social Anxiety
You walk into lunch holding your tray. Two classmates at your usual table whisper something, glance your direction, and laugh. You think: "They were definitely making fun of me. Nobody actually likes me."
What assumption is being made?

Situation C: Tryouts or Auditions Setbacks & Effort
You tried out for the school play (or sports team) and didn't make the cast list. You think: "I have zero talent. I wasted all my time and I shouldn't ever try out for anything again."
What extreme words are used?

Part 5: My Go-To Pocket Anchors
Create 2 short, grounded truths you can remember when stress hits.
Anchor 1: When School / Work Overwhelms Me
My realistic reminder (e.g., "I don't need to know everything right now; just the next step"):
Anchor 2: When Social Stress or Comparison Creeps In
My realistic reminder (e.g., "I cannot read minds. Other people's moods aren't all about me"):
