"Mistakes are data. What can I fix?"
Instead of:
"This is too hard."
Try saying:
"This is stretching my brain muscle."

The 3 Litmus Tests

Does it keep bodies, property, and feelings secure?
Is it Fair?
Does it respect classroom norms and equal rights?
Is it Kind?
Would you feel good if someone did this to you?
How to Make It Right
Mistakes happen. Ownership builds respect:
- Own it without excuses
Say: "I made a poor choice when I did that."
- Give a sincere repair
Say: "I am sorry for hurting you. How can I fix this?"
- Change the action next time
Follow through with your agreed plan.
The Morning-After Test:
If your choice was published on the front page tomorrow, would you feel proud or embarrassed?
"You are free to choose your actions, but you are not free from their consequences." Heart & Mind SEL Series • Poster 3
