Role 01
Primary Mission: Leads the process, keeps the team focused on the rubric/objective, and ensures every voice is actively heard and respected.
Key Responsibilities
- • Reads directions aloud and clarifies step-by-step goals.
- • Calls on quiet teammates and invites all opinions.
- • Guides polite conflict resolution when ideas clash.
Power Phrases:
"What do you think about this step, [Name]?"
"Let's reread the prompt to make sure we're on track."
The Pacer
Timekeeper & Momentum Manager
Role 02
Primary Mission: Manages time intervals, tracks task checkpoints, and prevents the group from lingering too long on a single step.
Key Responsibilities
- • Breaks total work time into actionable phases.
- • Gives 10-minute, 5-minute, and 2-minute countdown warnings.
- • Urges the team forward when discussions stall out.
Power Phrases:
"We have 7 minutes left to finish Part B."
"Let's choose our best idea now so we can start writing."
The Scribe
Recorder & Chief Documentarian
Role 03
Primary Mission: Captures ideas in real time, synthesizes group consensus, and ensures all submitted artifacts are accurate, legible, and complete.
Key Responsibilities
- • Records brainstormed notes, charts, and final drafts.
- • Checks spelling, citations, and clarity before submission.
- • Reads written responses back to teammates to confirm accuracy.
Power Phrases:
"How should I summarize your point in one sentence?"
"Does this wording capture what we just agreed on?"
The Speaker
Spokesperson & Teacher Liaison
Role 04
Primary Mission: Voices the team's shared conclusions to the class, asks clarifying questions to the teacher, and represents team achievements proudly.
Key Responsibilities
- • Asks the teacher questions after the team has tried solving them.
- • Presents findings and answers questions during whole-class share out.
- • Credits teammates when presenting group ideas.
Power Phrases:
"Our group concluded that..."
"We checked together first, but we still need help with..."
