CHROMEBOOK COMMAND GUIDE
The Zero-Paper System for 7th & 8th Graders Who Hate Daily Planners
Chromebook Edition No lost paper. Always synced.
Why Paper Planners Fail: They get crushed in backpacks or forgotten in lockers. Your Chromebook is open in every single class. Use these 4 digital habits to automate due dates and finish homework with zero stress.
1
Google Tasks: The 3-Item Rule
Click the small checkmark circle on the right side-panel of Gmail or Calendar.
The "Verb First" Formula Never type "History". Type Read Ch. 4 (p. 82-88).
Star Only 3 Tonight Star 3 tasks maximum as your "Must-Do Tonight". The rest can wait.
Check off items as soon as you submit them
2
Google Calendar: Due Date Radar
Use your calendar as an early-warning system rather than an empty schedule.
2-Day Early Warning For big tests, create an event 2 days early: "Study Science (2d left)".
Color-Code 3 Categories Red: Tests/Quizzes | Blue: Homework | Green: Sports
Enable Chrome desktop notifications for alerts
3
Tab Groups: Kill 30-Tab Chaos
Having 30 open tabs slows down your Chromebook and clutters your mind.
Right-Click → Add Tab to Group Create 3 colored groups: Classes, Projects, and Daily Hub.
Collapse Groups to 1 Label Click the group bubble to collapse 8 tabs into one clean colored tag.
Use Ctrl + W to close tabs right when finished
4
The "Top 5" Bookmarks Dock
Stop typing URLs or searching Google every time you need school sites.
Turn on Bookmark Bar: Ctrl + Shift + B Pin exactly 5 essentials across the top of your screen:
1. Classroom | 2. Student Portal | 3. Calendar
4. Google Drive | 5. School Email
Right-click bookmark → Edit → Delete name for icon only
The 90-Second Daily Chromebook Routine
2x per day
Morning Bell Ringer (First 45 sec): Open Chromebook → Check Google Calendar for today & tomorrow → Star 3 tasks in Google Tasks.
End-of-Day Pack Up (Last 45 sec): Check off finished items → Close all non-school tabs (Ctrl+W) → Plug into charger before bed.

STRATEGY CARDS & CHROMEBOOK AUDIT

Quick Reference Cut or Bookmark
Tactic Card A
The "Chunk & Check" Homework Hack
Big assignments feel impossible when written as one giant bullet point.
Write 5-page history report
✓ Mon: Pick topic + 2 sources (15 min)
✓ Tue: Write intro paragraph (15 min)
✓ Wed: Write 3 body sections (25 min)
Tactic Card B
The 4:30 PM "Trigger Alarm"
Do not rely on your memory to start homework after relaxing from school.
Set a daily recurring phone or watch alert for 4:30 PM labeled: "Open Tasks for 60 seconds."
Even if you take a break first, looking at the list stops assignments from surprising you at 9:30 PM.
Tactic Card C
The Google Drive Folder Rule
Stop having 80 documents named "Untitled document" floating in Drive.
Create exactly 4 subject folders: Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies.
Title rule: [Subject] - [Topic] - [Name]
Example: Science - Ecosystem Lab - Alex M
Tactic Card D
The Friday 3-Minute Reset
Leave school on Friday completely free of academic anxiety.
• Delete: Clear out your "Downloads" folder.
• Check: Look at portal for any missing zero scores.
• Close: Shut down all browser tabs for a clean Monday restart.
10-Minute Chromebook Setup Challenge
Do This Right Now
Complete these 4 setup steps once, and your Chromebook will keep you organized automatically all semester:

Open Google Tasks Click the Tasks icon in Gmail/Calendar side-panel. Add 1 real task.
Add 1 Test to Calendar Pick an upcoming test date and color-code it Red with an alert.
Create 1 Tab Group Right-click any tab and make a colored group for your next class.
