The Journey Path
1
Introduction: The Explorer Meeting
5 min
Gather children in a circle. Discuss how everyone sometimes has to be away from their caregivers. Explain that today we are becoming Explorers on a mission to learn how to stay brave and happy while we wait!
2
Story Time: Llama Llama’s Big Day
7 min
Read Llama Llama Misses Mama . Pause when Llama feels sad. Ask: "How is Llama feeling?" and "What could Llama do to feel better?" Look for answers like playing with friends or remembered that Mama comes back.
3
Feelings Circle: Share the Load
5 min
Explorers share a time they felt nervous about being away from home. What helped? (A hug, a favorite toy, a song?). Validate all feelings—it's okay to miss someone!
4
Breathing Exercise: Explorer Calm
3 min
Teach the "Flower and Candle" technique:
Smell the Flower: Breathe in deep through the nose.
Blow the Candle: Blow out slow through the mouth.
5
Role-Play: The Great Adventure
10 min
Give each child their "Travel Buddy" (stuffed animal). Use the Adventure Cards to guide them through imaginary scenarios. Crossing rivers, finding treasure, and helping each other stay brave!
Teacher Tip:
If a child gets overwhelmed, prompt them to use the Flower/Candle breath.
6
Closure: Brave Explorer Badge
8 min
Draw favorite adventure moments. Recap how brave everyone was. Remind them: "Explorers might miss their base, but they always have the tools to stay brave!"

3
Climbing a Tall Mountain
"Reach up high! Reach up higher! We're at the very top. Look how far we've come!"
4
Exploring a Dark Cave
"Shhh... it's a bit dark in here. Turn on your invisible flashlights! We are brave explorers."

6
The Magic Breath Stop

How to Use These Cards
1. Setup
Clear a space in the room to be the "Adventure Zone". Lay the cards out or hold them as you travel.
2. Act It Out
Use big movements! Stomp through the mud, tip-toe through the cave, and reach high for the mountain.
3. Connect
Remind students that just like explorers, they might feel nervous, but they can handle it together!
