Stress Ball Toss Guide Activity Guide
Stress Ball Strategy Toss
Objective
Generate as many healthy coping strategies as possible in a fast-paced, collaborative format to build a "menu" of options for the class.
Equipment
One soft stress ball per group
Timer (set for 3–4 minutes)
Coping Tools Poster (to record)
How to Play
1
Circle Up
Have students form a loose circle. Display the Coping Tools Poster where everyone can see it.
2
Launch the Ball
Hand the ball to a volunteer. When the timer starts, the holder names one healthy coping strategy (e.g., "going for a walk").
3
The Toss
Toss the ball to a peer. They must name a new strategy not yet on the chart within 5 seconds.
4
Record Ideas
The teacher (or a scribe) writes each unique idea on the poster. Keep the energy high until the timer rings!
Pro Rules
No Repeats: If a strategy is on the chart, think faster!
5 Second Rule: No holding the ball longer than 5 seconds.
Eye Contact: Always look before you toss for safety.
Variation
The Secret Box: For a quieter alternative, students write strategies on index cards and place them in a "Coping Box." The teacher reads them aloud later.
