Purpose
To share and celebrate the positive observations students made about their classmates in a safe, structured environment.
Facilitation Steps
1
Arrange the Space
Have students sit in a circle so everyone has a clear line of sight to their peers. This promotes equity and active listening.
2
Explain the Sharing Options
Students can choose to:
Read a compliment card they received (sharing what others see in them).
Share a strength they wrote for someone else (expressing appreciation).
3
Set Group Norms
Remind students to use "supportive silence," offer affirming body language (nods, smiles), and avoid interrupting. Every voice is a gift.
4
Model the Process
Share a strength you have observed in the class as a whole or in a specific student to set a high bar for genuine, specific feedback.
Prompts for Deeper Discussion
"How did it feel to hear something positive about yourself that you didn't expect?"
"What was it like to look closely for strengths in classmates you don't usually talk to?"
"How can noticing these strengths change the way we work together as a class?"
Thank students for their vulnerability and positive contributions.
