Part 1
The Giant Birdhouse Tower
Story Scene
The Giant Plan
Milo wanted to build a three-story bird castle for the spring flock. He hauled out sixty wooden boards, two buckets of nails, and four cans of paint all at once.
“I am going to finish the whole thing before bedtime!” Milo shouted.
The Total Exhaustion
By 4:00 PM, Milo had sore fingers, crooked nails, and glue in his hair. Only four boards were standing. Milo threw his hammer into the clover and kicked the dirt.
“It is impossible,” Milo groaned. “I quit!”

Part 2
Grandpa Leo’s Secret
Wisdom on the Porch
The Golden Rule of Showing Up
“Nobody leaps to the mountain peak in one jump, Milo. The mountain doesn’t care how fast you run today. It respects the feet that show up again tomorrow morning.”
Grandpa Leo handed Milo a small notebook. “Just fifteen minutes. Three nails. Two planks. Every single day after school. That is your only job.”

Days 1 to 4
Excitement High
Milo ran straight to the workshop after the bell. He hammered three clean planks each afternoon. It felt easy and fun!
Effort: 100% Fun
Days 5 to 9
The Hard Middle
Thursday was cold and rainy. Milo wanted to watch cartoons. But he remembered his pledge. He put on his boots and sanded just one perch.

The Showing Up Formula
Ready to Build Your Tracker
1. Name Your Mountain
Pick one clear, meaningful goal. Not ten things at once—just one mountain you truly care about.
• Clear & Specific
2. Carve Small Steps
Break it into a micro-action you can do in 10 minutes every day. So small you can never say no.
• Daily Stepping Stone
3. Show Up Every Day
Consistency beats intensity. When you show up on the hard days, that is when the real magic happens.

• Formulate one SMART micro-goal broken into an achievable 10-minute daily habit.
Core Vocabulary

Teacher prompts indicated in bold italic
Stop 1: The All-at-Once Trap (Slide 2) Character Motivation Check
Teacher Think-Aloud: “Notice how excited Milo was at the start. He wanted to finish everything right away. But look what happened by 4 o’clock—he was angry, exhausted, and ready to quit forever.”
Guided Turn & Talk: “Why does trying to do everything in one afternoon usually make us feel like quitting? Have you ever started a project with high excitement only to burn out?”
Stop 2: Grandpa Leo’s Stepping Stones (Slide 3) Concept Framing
Teacher Think-Aloud: “Grandpa Leo tells Milo that mountains are not climbed in one leap. He asks Milo for just 15 minutes a day. That doesn’t seem like much, does it? But 15 minutes every single day adds up to almost two hours a week, and eight hours a month!”
Check for Understanding: “What makes a 15-minute goal smarter than an all-day cram session? Why is it easier to say yes to a tiny habit?”
Stop 3: The Rainy Thursday Test (Slide 4) Resilience & Responsibility
Teacher Think-Aloud: “This is the most important moment in the story. Days 1 through 4 were fun. But Day 7 was freezing cold and wet. Anyone can show up when it’s sunny and thrilling. True consistency is what you do when you don’t feel like it.”
Key Question: “Milo didn’t build a whole roof in the rain—he just sanded one perch. What does this teach us about showing up on tough days?”
