Stories of Grit
Sometimes, the best way to understand resilience is to see it in action. Here are three people who faced massive challenges and found a way to bounce back stronger.
01 Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai grew up in Pakistan, where girls' education was often discouraged. When she was just 11 years old, she started blogging about her desire to go to school and the importance of education for girls. Her brave voice angered a group called the Taliban, who tried to silence her by shooting her.
Instead of giving up, Malala recovered and became an even stronger advocate for education worldwide. She continued to speak out, even winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Her story shows incredible resilience in the face of extreme violence and a commitment to her beliefs.
Reflection

Bethany Hamilton 02
Bethany Hamilton was a talented young surfer with a bright future. At just 13 years old, she was attacked by a shark while surfing and lost her left arm. Many people would have given up on their dream, but Bethany's love for surfing and her sheer determination helped her return to the water just one month after the attack.
She had to learn how to surf in a completely new way, but she persevered and continued to compete professionally. Bethany’s story is a powerful example of overcoming physical adversity through mental strength and passion.
Reflection
How did Bethany show resilience after her accident?
03 J.K. Rowling
Before she became a world-famous author, J.K. Rowling faced many rejections. She was a single mother living on state benefits when she started writing the first Harry Potter book. Many publishers turned her down, saying her book wouldn't sell.
Despite the setbacks and financial struggles, she kept believing in her story and her ability to tell it. Finally, one publisher took a chance, and the rest is history. Her journey shows that persistence and belief in oneself, even in the face of repeated rejection, can lead to extraordinary success.
