Wolfgang's Personal Space Bubble
Learning how to keep our bodies safe, comfortable, and ready to learn!
1 ARM'S LENGTH
Meet Wolfgang
"Hi, I'm Wolfgang! I'm in 1st grade."
I have curly brown hair, blue glasses, and I love school! Today, I am learning a superpower called Personal Space.
Every person has an invisible bubble around their body. When we give each other space, everyone feels comfortable, calm, and respected!
What is My Space Bubble?
Your bubble is the room your body needs to move, stretch, breathe, and learn without touching other people.
Keeps me and my classmates happy!
The Arm's Length Test
Gently reach out one arm. If your fingertips can touch someone else, your bubbles are overlapping!
Take one step back to fix your bubble.
Wolfgang's First Grade Golden Rule
"I keep my hands, feet, and objects in my own bubble at all times."

Scenario 2: Hallways & Transitions
Hallway Safety
Walking in the Line: The "Backpack Rule"
When the class lines up to walk to lunch, recess, or art, Wolfgang leaves one backpack-sized cushion of air in front of him. No stepping on shoes!
How Wolfgang Keeps His Bubble in the Hallway
Quiet Hands
Wolfgang keeps his hands at his sides or gently behind his back. He does not touch the walls or bulletin boards.
Backpack Space
Wolfgang watches the friend ahead of him. He keeps two shoe-lengths of space so nobody trips or gets stepped on.
Forward Eyes
Wolfgang keeps his eyes facing front. If the line stops suddenly, Wolfgang stops right away without crashing!
What If Bubbles Bump? (Wolfgang's Words to Use)
Sometimes hallways are tight and accidents happen! Wolfgang stays calm. He knows that an accidental bump is not on purpose.
If Wolfgang bumps someone: "Oops! I am sorry. Let me give you space."
If someone bumps Wolfgang: "Please take one step back so we have space."
Wolfgang's Hallway Motto: "Eyes front, quiet feet, hands to myself!" PAGE 3 OF 4

Scenario 3: Playground, Swings & Games
Recess Safety
At The Slide & Swings
Wolfgang waits at the bottom of the ladder until the friend ahead slides completely down and walks away.
Never stand near moving swings!
Tag & Ball Games
When playing tag, Wolfgang uses gentle two-finger shoulder tags. He never grabs shirts, pushes, or tackles.
Gentle butterfly touch only.

Scripted Story Read-Aloud Protocol
Phase 1 • Before Reading (3 mins) Kinesthetic Hook
Teacher Script: "Everyone stand up tall. Reach your arms out like giant airplane wings. Gently spin in one small circle without touching anyone. That circle of air around your body is your Personal Space Bubble. Today we are meeting a first grader named Wolfgang who discovered how keeping our bubbles safe makes our whole classroom feel calm and happy."
Phase 2 • During Reading Discussion Prompts (10 mins) Targeted Scenarios
SCENARIO 1: CARPET & CUBBIES
"Look at how Wolfgang sits criss-cross on his square. If someone leans their head on your shoulder during math, how might you feel? What can Wolfgang say?"
Prompt: "Hands in lap, feet in front!"
SCENARIO 2: LINE & HALLWAY
"Why does Wolfgang leave a backpack-sized space in front of his toes? If the person at the front stops fast, what happens if we're too close?"
Prompt: "Backpack buffer saves noses!"
SCENARIO 3: PLAYGROUND & TAG
"When playing tag, what is the difference between a two-finger shoulder tap and an unexpected push? Why do we wait for the slide to clear?"
Prompt: "Gentle butterfly touches only!"
Phase 3 • After Reading Debrief & Pledge (5 mins) Commitment
Teacher Prompt: "Accidents happen, even when we try our hardest! What are the two superhero words Wolfgang uses when someone's bubble pops? ('Excuse me!' and 'Step back, please.') Let's all practice saying those words in a calm, confident voice right now."
