Part 2: Discovering Strengths
Counselor Says:
"Alright, let's move to the next part of our map. (Navigate to Slide 2) What Makes You Shine? When I say 'strength,' I mean something you're really good at, something you enjoy doing, or something that makes you feel proud. It could be anything! Maybe you're a really kind friend, or you're great at helping your classmates, or you're super creative when you draw. Perhaps you're a good listener or good at solving puzzles."
"Take a moment to think about your super strength. What is something that makes you, YOU, and makes you shine?"
Action:
Give the student time to think. Offer prompts if needed. Help them write it on the Growth Map Activity sheet.
Counselor Says:
"That's a fantastic strength! Can you tell me about a time you used that strength? When did it really come in handy?"
Listen actively and provide positive affirmation.
8:00 - 13:00
Part 3: Setting a Growth Goal
Counselor Says:
"Wonderful! Now that we've celebrated your strength, let's think about how you can grow even more. (Navigate to Slide 3) Your Next Adventure: A Growth Goal ! Everyone, even adults, has things they want to get better at, and that's totally normal and exciting! A growth goal is just one small step you want to take to learn something new or improve in an area."
"It shouldn't be too big, just a tiny step . For example, maybe you want to try to ask one question in class each day, or read for 5 extra minutes before bed, or remember to say 'please' and 'thank you' more often. What's one small thing you'd like to work on?"
