Story & Facilitation Scripts
Use these precise storytelling prompts and questions to engage young learners.
Read-Aloud: "Milo's Mighty Cape"
Introduce Milo, a friendly young raccoon who gets a shiny blue blanket he pretends is a "Choice Superhero Cape." Explain that our real superpower is our ability to choose our actions.
"Milo wanted to build the tallest blocks tower ever. But his friend, Lily, was playing nearby. Milo wanted Lily's blocks. He had a choice: grab them or ask nicely."
➔ Stop & Ask: "What should Milo's Superhero Cape tell him to do here?"
"Oh no! Milo grabbed them, and the tower crashed! Lily started to cry. Milo felt a big heavy knot in his tummy. He had made a bad choice. Now he had another choice: run away or choose to help."
➔ Stop & Ask: "When we make a mistake, how does our tummy feel? What can Milo do to help Lily feel better?"
"Milo took a deep breath. 'I'm sorry I grabbed those, Lily,' he said. 'Let's build together.' His tummy felt light and happy again. His Cape was shining!"
Video Discussion Prompts
Show the responsibility videos during the designated slides. Pause and guide students with these three focus questions:
- Identify: What was the character's choice? Was it helpful or hurtful?
- Consequences: How did their choice make the people around them feel?
- Helpers: What helper choice can we make in that situation instead?
Differentiation & Behavior Support
For Extra Support:
Use visual puppets of "Happy Milo" and "Sad Milo". Let students hold up the puppets to vote on choices during the read-aloud rather than speaking.
Behavior Management:
If students become wiggly, activate their "Mighty Cape." Ask them to sit up tall like superheroes and take a collective deep breath.
