5th Grade Expectations
A Quick Reference Guide for Families & Students • 2026-2027
Home of the Mavericks
Our Team Vision
We commit to consistency, community, happiness, positivity, and fostering a love for learning in every Maverick this year.
Daily Routines
- • Transitions: All supplies stay inside backpacks. Students carry only a pencil and water bottle when going to next class.
- • Backpack Storage: Kept on the back of chairs. Students only retrieve items needed for instruction.
- • Bathroom System: Log-in required. 1 boy/1 girl out at a time with a pass. 5th graders use the upstairs bathrooms closest to our classrooms.
- • Hats Off: Removed upon entering the classroom and placed in the designated class storage area.
School-wide Rules: Cell phones, earbuds, toys, and hoodies up are not permitted. No gum allowed in classrooms.
Technology & Campus
- • Chromebooks: Picked up from the Block 4 room each morning and returned to that cart at dismissal.
- • Academic Focus: Only use devices for academic work (such as IXL and assigned classwork).
- • Dismissal: Block 4 teachers escort students down stairs to release into the courtyard at 3:43. Students are expected to head directly to their designated pick-up location.
- • Car Line Expectations: Please make sure you have your car line number in your dash each time for easy pick up.
* Computers must be inside backpacks during all transitions.
Homework & Grading
- Homework: No regular daily homework. Any unfinished classwork must be completed at home.
- Incomplete Work: Write "HW" at top of paper and place in backpack prong folder on "incomplete work" side.
- Late Work: Accepted for full credit until the end of the current unit. Turn in quickly for best impact.
- Retakes: Retake opportunities are provided. A brief reteach and practice are required first.
Absences & Travel
- Timeline: Students get a matching number of days absent to complete and submit make-up work.
- Student Responsibility: Students are responsible for checking in with each teacher upon return.
- Extended Absences: For multi-day absences, parents can request work packets from the front office.
- Vacations: Advance work can be requested, but availability depends on teacher lesson preparation.
STAR Expectations & Incentives
Students are expected to follow STAR expectations. Incentives include our Weekly STAR Store, 5th-8th Joint STAR Store, and End-of-Quarter Incentive for completing all assignments.
Family Communication
Weekly Eblast: This will be sent through ParentSquare and includes what our weekly assignments and upcoming important events.
Reflection Sheets: If sent home, please sign and return them the next day. (Sent with a ParentSquare message). If not returned, a phone call will be made.

Daily Procedures
Transitions & Backpacks
- • All supplies stored in backpacks during hallway transitions to prevent clutter.
- • Students carry only a pencil, water bottle, and chromebook in hand.
- • Backpacks must be hung on the back of chairs during class time.
Bathroom & Dress
- • Bathroom Procedure: Digital log sheet, classroom passes, and 1 boy & 1 girl out at a time.
- • Same designated restroom for all 5th graders.
- • Hats: Off upon entry and placed in designated spots.
School-Wide Policy: Cell phones, earbuds, toys, and hoodies up are not permitted on campus. No gum in class.

Technology Expectations
Device Care
One-to-One Chromebooks
Responsible daily handling is required of every 5th grader.
Pick Up & Storage Procedures
Devices are picked up from the Block 4 homeroom cart each morning and returned to the exact same cart at the end of the day.
Safe Hallway Transition
Chromebooks must be securely stored inside zipped backpacks whenever transitioning between classes.
Academic Purpose Only
Devices are tools for learning. Students may only access academic websites, IXL, and assigned instructional work.
