Lesson Facilitation
Use these prompts to facilitate a meaningful discussion with the small group after the "Coping Strategy Sort" activity and as students complete their worksheets. Aim for an environment where sharing "strategies I could try" feels like unlocking new skills.
Opening the Discussion
"What was one new coping strategy you discovered today that you hadn't thought about before?"
"Was there a strategy that you already use, and why is it helpful for you?"
Deepening Understanding
"Can anyone share a time when they felt stressed or upset, and how a coping strategy could have helped them in that moment?"
"Why do you think it's important to have a few different coping strategies instead of just one? (Think of it like a toolbox for feelings!)"
"Are there any strategies that might work better for some feelings (like anger) versus others (like sadness)?"
Personalizing the Toolkit
"Look at your toolkit. Can you share one strategy from your personal list and how you plan to use it this week?"
"How can we remember to use these strategies when we're feeling overwhelmed? What are some reminders we could set for ourselves?"
Closing Reflection
"What's one thing you learned today about managing your feelings?"
"How does it feel to know you have these 'superpowers' to help you?"
