What targeted systems, programs, workshops, or 1-on-1 tactics drove clear and verifiable college/career milestones last year?
Grows (Friction)
Quadrant II
Where did students encounter major roadblocks? Which demographics or cohorts slipped through, or where did you waste critical time?
Anchors (Beliefs)
Quadrant III
What core advising standard, commitment, or belief system acts as your anchor? What keeps you grounded amid daily student crises?
Compass (Direction)
Quadrant IV
Looking at last year's goals and today's insights, what is the #1 strategic needle you need to move for your seniors this year?

Part 1: Grounding
10 Minutes
“
Unreflected experience is just noise. Reflection is where experience turns into strategy.
The Reactive Loop
Advising is high-reactive by nature. Deadlines, micro-crises, and daily student demands pull us in 100 directions.
Active Guidance
Reflection breaks the cycle. It gives you the space to operate with agency, intentionality, and strategic calm.

Session Pacing Timeline
Part 1: Grounding 10 Mins (Slides 1-2)
Part 2: Matrix Drafting 15 Mins (Slides 3-4)
Part 3: Cross-School Exchange 20-25 Mins (Slides 5-6)
Segment 1: Grounding (10 Minutes) Slides 1 & 2
Frame the purpose of transitioning from open reflections to structured, strategic matrices.
Suggested Facilitator Script: "Welcome back! At the end of last year, you shared incredibly thoughtful reflections on your programs. Today, we're taking those loose, open thoughts and organizing them into forward-facing strategy. Your work is incredibly reactive; it's easy to get caught in the everyday noise of student crises. This activity is designed to pull us out of that reactive state, align our objectives, and give us a clear 'compass' for the year ahead."
Segment 2: Individual Matrix (15 Minutes) Slides 3 & 4
Advisors work individually on their 'Anchor & Map' sheets. Play quiet background music.
How to Facilitate: Distribute physical handouts. Prompt advisors to fill in their name and school details. Emphasize that this is silent, personal reflection. Urge them to avoid safe generalities and name specific student groups, tools, and workshops.
- Glows: Focus on systems that yielded actual, verifiable college/career milestones.
- Grows: Be brutally honest about student populations missed or wasted time.
- Anchors: Reflect on the primary standard/core belief that holds them down.
- Compass: Draft the major target priority they must achieve by winter break.
