Quest Overview
This 9-session individual plan uses a school-appropriate Fortnite theme to teach social problem-solving. We integrate Social Thinking® vocabulary to build cognitive flexibility for 4th-grade students with Level 2 Autism.
Main Goal
Improve flexible thinking for social problem-solving in school environments.
Key Strategy
Use "Quest Map" tracking and "Loot Box" scenario training.

Mission Steps
1
The Drop (Launch Slides)
Open the Session 1 slides. Introduce yourself as the "Support Squad Member." Explain that school is the "Island" and sometimes "Storms" (problems) happen. We are here to train to get a Victory Royale (Social Success).
2
Looting Vocab (Review)
Use Slide 3 to check familiar gear: Expected, Unexpected, Flexible, and Stuck. Use non-violent gaming metaphors (e.g., "Expected behavior is like following the game rules so the squad wins").
3
Claiming the Map (Progress Tracker)
Present the Progress Tracker. Let the student write their "Gamertag" (name) in the Player Profile. Explain that for every session finished, they earn a Shield Check on the map.
Support Squad: Level 2 Tips
Visual Priming
Use the slides consistently. If the student feels overwhelmed by the theme, simplify the language back to standard social thinking terms immediately.
Engagement Check
Does the student like a specific Fortnite character? Use their name during scenarios to keep attention locked on the lesson.

Mission 2: Spotting the Problem
The Storm = A Problem
A Storm is when something happens that we didn't plan for.
"Wait, this isn't what was supposed to happen!"
Radar Scanning
To beat the Storm, describe it in simple terms.
WHO
is involved
or impacted?
WHAT
is actually
happening?

"You go to the cafeteria for lunch and get in line. When you get to the front, the cook says they just ran out of the pizza you wanted. You have to choose a different lunch option."
Who is

Scan Results
"Me and the squad (WHO) are out of pizza (WHAT)."
Perfect scan! Now we can loot for solutions.

Mission Steps
1
Radar Check (Slides 1-3)
Review the "Storm" metaphor. Introduce scanning tools: Who is involved or impacted? What is actually happening? Emphasize that "Who" is about the whole squad, not just finding someone to blame.
2
Guided Scanning (Slides 4-7)
Walk through scenarios. Have the student name the Who/What. Reveal results. Praise descriptions that include the student (e.g., "Me and my teacher are in a gym storm").
3
Loot Box Trial (Worksheet)
Use the "Radar Scan Report" worksheet. Help the student complete the "Who" and "What" boxes for the Hallway and Gym missions. Record data on their ability to name the involved/impacted parties.
Support Squad: Level 2 Tips
Blame Reduction
If the student says "The teacher made a mistake," rephrase: "The teacher (WHO) changed the game (WHAT). You are both in the gym storm together!"
Inclusion Focus
Model descriptions that start with "Me and..." to help the student see themselves as part of the social dynamic being scanned.

2
Shield Practice (Slides 3-5)
Go through the slides. Have the student "Activate the Shield" by choosing flexible phrases (e.g., "Change is okay"). Practice the "Hallway Mission" together using visual prompts.
3
Fortifying the Shield (Worksheet)
Complete Part 1 and 2 of the worksheet. If handwriting is a challenge, use the "Squad Comms" section in Part 3 to have the student point and read phrases aloud as an emote.

Review all 4 major tools: Radar, Shield, Supply Drop, and Best Loadout. Ask the student: "Which tool was most helpful during your training?" Praise their specific application of flexible thinking during previous sessions.

3
Victory Celebration
Finalize the Progress Tracker with the Session 9 Victory Royale sticker. Present the reward. Celebrate their hard work with a celebratory Fortnite "emote" high-five or dance!
Support Squad: Level 2 Tips
Ending Ritual
Transitioning out of a program can be difficult. Explicitly tell the student: "Our quest training sessions are finished, but I am still on your Support Squad in the hallway and will check in on you!"
Generalization Support
Provide the physical generalization tool (Keyring/Visual Card). Show them where to put it (e.g., inside their desk or on a backpack) to ensure it is available when a storm hits in class.
