Pacing & Instructional Steps (Part 1)
1
Hook & Check-In: The Big Scoop Drop
00:00 – 00:10 (10 mins)
Facilitator Script: "Imagine you just got the most incredible triple-decker sundae. You step outside, trip on a crack, and splat! The scoop hits the pavement. How does your stomach feel? What thoughts rush in?"
Action: Have each student share one word describing how mistakes feel (e.g., ruined, embarrassed, panicked ).
Takeaway: Spills happen to everyone. A dropped scoop feels terrible, but it doesn't mean you can never enjoy ice cream again.
2
Concept Discovery: The Melt Meter & Body Signals
00:10 – 00:25 (15 mins)
Project Slide 3 (The Melt Meter) . Guide learners to explore how emotions heat up in 4 stages:
Level 1: Chilled Calm, clear-headed, ready to try again.
Level 2: Dripping Irritated, tight jaw, warm cheeks.
Level 3: Soft Serve Shaky hands, negative self-talk starting.
Level 4: Meltdown Tears, storming out, yelling, shutting down.
Key Teaching Point: You can catch a drip before it turns into a complete sticky puddle!

3
Core Strategy: The 4-Scoop Reset Protocol
00:25 – 00:40 (15 mins)
Introduce the 4 practical scoops students can trigger whenever an error strikes:
#1
Freeze Breath:
Inhale cool air for 4s, exhale slow warmth for 4s. Cools emotional heat immediately.
#2
Name the Flavor:
Name the feeling aloud or internally: "This is embarrassment" or "This is frustration."
#3
Reframe the Spill:
Say: "It's just one scoop, not the whole tub. Mistakes help my brain learn."
#4
Clean the Counter:
Take 1 practical action: apologize, ask for help, erase and try again, or take a 2-minute reset.
4
Partner Roleplay & Worksheet Crafting
00:40 – 00:52 (12 mins)
Distribute Scoop Scenario Cards to pairs. Students practice using the 4 steps on realistic school blunders (math errors, missed kickball catches, broken projects).
Then, students personalize Page 2 of their Scoop Reset Worksheet ("My Confidence Sundae") to identify personal support people, courage mottos, and bounce-back strategies.
5
Closing Circle & The Cherry Affirmation
00:52 – 01:00 (8 mins)
Each student shares their "Cherry on Top" brave motto. Group concludes with a unison pledge: "Spills happen, mistakes fade, confidence is scooped, not made!"
Facilitator Coaching & De-escalation Tips
If a student gets emotional:
Do not force them to speak. Offer the "Brain Freeze Breath" together and invite them to point to their level on the Melt Meter.
Early vs. Upper Elementary:
For younger learners, emphasize physical body cues (clenched fists). For upper elementary, focus on internal negative self-talk spirals.

💡 A mistake is just a dropped scoop. It feels bad, but your day is not ruined!
Group Check-In
Think about a recent mistake (a wrong answer in class, missing a soccer goal, breaking something).
"What is the first thought your brain shouts?"
Remember: Everyone makes mistakes every single day.
Emotional Awareness
The Melt Meter: Where Are You Right Now?
Chilled
Calm, relaxed, and ready to learn. Mistakes roll off easily.

Level 2
Soft Serve
Hot cheeks, racing heart. Thoughts like "I can't do this!"
Level 3
Meltdown

4
Clean the Counter
Take one bounce-back action: erase and retry, ask for help, or take a quick 2-minute reset break.

Pair Roleplay & Discussion
Scoop Reset Scenario Cards
In pairs, pick a card. Read the blunder, spot the Melt Meter stage, and roleplay how you would use the 4-Scoop Reset to bounce back!
Card 1 • Academics
The Wrong Answer Out Loud
You raise your hand confidently to answer a reading question, but your answer is completely wrong and two classmates giggle.
Brain Freeze: "Everyone thinks I'm stupid. I'm never raising my hand again."
🍨 Reset Prompt: Name the feeling & reframe: what does raising your hand really prove?
Card 2 • Recess
The Dropped Fly Ball
It's the bottom of the inning in kickball. The ball flies right to your hands, slips through your fingers, and the other team scores.
Brain Freeze: "I lost the entire game for my team. They're going to hate me."
🍨 Reset Prompt: Take a Freeze Breath. What can you say to your teammates right away?
Card 3 • Creativity
The Spilled Paint Blunder
You've spent 40 minutes on an art watercolor project. While reaching for water, your sleeve knocks black paint directly onto your sky.
Brain Freeze: "It's totally ruined. I'm tearing this whole paper up right now!"
🍨 Reset Prompt: How can you turn that accidental black splotch into something new?
Card 4 • Friendship
The Accidental Secret Slip
At lunch, you accidentally mention something your best friend told you in private. Your friend looks hurt and walks away.
Brain Freeze: "I'm a terrible friend. Our friendship is over forever."
🍨 Reset Prompt: Practice "Clean the Counter": what does a sincere, brave apology sound like?
Card 5 • Performance
The Music Recital Squeak
During the school concert, your instrument makes a loud screech right in the middle of a quiet solo. Everyone hears it.
Brain Freeze: "Everyone is staring at me. I want to run off the stage right now."
🍨 Reset Prompt: What Freeze Breath or silent motto keeps your posture strong for the rest of the song?
Card 6 • Group Work
The Forgotten Homework Part
Your group counts on you to bring the poster board to school today. You get to class and realize it is sitting on your bedroom desk.
