Teacher Tips for Interactive Bulletin Boards
1. Preparation & Setup
Printing & Durability
Cardstock: Print headers and cards on heavy cardstock (65lb+) to prevent curling.
Lamination: Laminate anything interactive (flip cards, roadmap, checklist) for longevity and dry-erase capability.
Sizing: Most titles are designed for 11x17 paper but can be scaled to fit standard 8.5x11 letter.
Mounting Methods
Hook & Loop: Use velcro dots for "Today's Focus" or student "Small Win" notes.
Hinge Taping: For "Flip Cards", tape only the top edge to the board so the bottom can be lifted.
QR Positioning: Place QR codes at eye level (approx. 5') for easy scanning.
2. Daily Engagement Strategies
The 2-Minute Warmup
During morning AOS check-ins, walk over to the board. Ask one student to read the "Skill of the Week" or "Communication Phrase" aloud. Ask: "When might you use this phrase today?"
The "Scavenger" Redirect
When a student is confused about a routine or staff role, don't answer immediately. Redirect them to the board: "Check the 'How TRC Works' section. Who is the person who helps with trade equipment?"
Small Win Ritual (Quarter 2/3)
Keep a stack of post-it notes and a marker near the board. Every Friday, have students write one "Small Win" and stick it to the Progress Mindset section.
3. Inclusivity & Support
Trauma-Informed Design
The calming color palettes (blues/greens/teals) and clear, predictable structures are intentional. Avoid over-cluttering the board, as high visual noise can be dysregulating for some students.
Adult Learning Theory
The language used is "Job-Aligned." Frame these boards not as "classroom rules" but as "workplace standards." This shift in framing increases buy-in for young adults.
4. Seasonal Rotation

Quarter 4: Purpose & Belonging
The final quarter board reinforces that the student's presence at TRC made a difference. By focusing on belonging and confidence , we strengthen retention for those still in the program and provide a powerful launchpad for those graduating.
Growth Reinforcement
Have students identify 3 specific skills (technical or soft) they didn't have 9 months ago. This builds immediate confidence for job interviews.
Belonging = Retention
Retention often fails when students lose their sense of purpose. Use the "Impact" section to show how their work helps others on campus.

Positive Language Kit Q4 Your Positive Core
Words That Build Confidence & Growth
Remove "Just"
Stop Devaluing Yourself
Saying "I'm just a student" devalues your skills. You are building a career. Own your role.
"I am a skilled [Trade] Professional."
Remove "Try"
Stop Giving Excuses
"Trying" gives you permission to fail. You either do it or you don't. Commit to the action.
"I will accomplish this."
Remove "Can't"
Replace with a Plan
"Can't" stops the effort. Replace it with a mental action plan on how you will act on your goals.
"I am learning how to master this."
Remove "Impossible"
Break It Down
Anything is possible when broken into smaller, attainable parts. Take it one step at a time.
"I will take this one step at a time."
Remove "Someday"
Set a Timeline
"Someday" is permission to procrastinate. Set a specific timeline and stick to it.
"I will reach this goal by [Specific Date]."
"Just as positive words encourage positive thinking, the same goes for negative phrasing. When we use positive language, our thoughts follow. Identify what is best in you and name it."
